While the Ork and Imperial squadrons are being built up I'm on the hunt for proxies.
This is especuially true for the Ork squadrons. ?If I have to use only FW flyers to match the size of the other fighters I will, but I'm looking and hoping for some additional variety.
A line I was looking at was the Reaper Cav line.
http://www.reapermini.com/gallery/TrueScaleVehicles
Now Cav is a 10mm game but when they first made their airsupport for the game they treated the fighters as almost counters and made them way out of the scale with the intened game.
see my very slight rant here
http://www.tacticalwargames.net/cgi-bin....21;st=0
Still many of these look like they would fit with 6mm epic fighters. ?
More recently Reaper has "modernized" there aircraft minis and started to release fighters in "true" N scale.
Having recently built the FW flyers I wanted to see if either of these Cav flyers would work with the AI flyers at hand.
I went down to the local store and was lucky to find one of the new N scale aircraft along with a blister of the orginal size aircraft.
Here is the comparison.

My conclusion is that neither of these would work. The N scale is too large and the original were simply made too small. It may work if you have the original SG fighters and wanted to add more and varied fighters to your force.

You can really see the difference from the side when looking at details like weapons and cockpit.
There you go
So I will continue to search for a 1/258 - 1/300 scale sci-fi fighter line.
Another place I'm looking at is the Aerofighters for Battletecg from Ironwind metals. I think they will be small too, but we'll see.
I'm hoping, or here is me begging, that DRM will do a fine line of human fighters ....

Well my quest continues.
First off i pulled out some old 1/285 modern fighters from GHQ and see if my earlier calculations were correct.
I am happy to report my calculator did a good job.

and then I compared them to the Imperial fighters.
So I wouldn't be seen as baised to only US designs I pulled out one of the coolest Western Europeon designs from the Cold war, the Tornado. Only the Viggen is cooler.

I also looked at some Ironwind metals aero fighters. By and large tehy are way to small. But i saw these at the tore and decided to pick them up to give a try.
These were the largest of the bunch.
Overall nothing wows me here. Teh delta wing fighter, called teh Slayer, may work as an imperial design. The other one is very clean. Maybe lots of plastic crad and orjy it up who knows.

I hope to use these as orks.

Second shot. Details, such as the cockpit reveal differences in scale. They may work. I will reserve final judgement when the clicky version of the minis arrive
