Got a nice surprise today after all the doom and gloom about FW running out of AI bases - a box containing a Thunderhawk and 4 Phoenix arrived The Thunderhawk is a large multipart kit. It's as long as the Marauder Destroyer, but much bulkier and a lot heavier. To give you an idea how big it is, here's a shot alongside some other FW flyers: http://www.ageofstrife.com/gallery/Spack104/IMG_2354 here's another shot next to an old GW shadowsword and an old stand of epic IG jump troops: http://www.ageofstrife.com/gallery/Spack104/IMG_2356 and here's the parts layout: http://www.ageofstrife.com/gallery/Spack104/IMG_2357 The Phoenix is about the same size as a Lightning, a little larger than a Barracuda. It comes in 5 parts - hull, 2 engines, 2 ventral fins: http://www.ageofstrife.com/gallery/Spack104/IMG_2360 I'll try to get better pics when they're put together, I had to rush these so they're a little fuzzy. |

Is that an alternate weapon to the turbo laser I see, or is it modeled at two angles. Mine wont be here until Monday, dam UPS and the UK being on the opposite side of the planet. Cheers CAL |

Do you have a 40k scale Thunderbolt? The AI model might look big, but trust me, I've got a 40k one too and it's a huge fighter. I've measured up the 40k model and translating from 28mm to 6mm the AI model is pretty much spot on (just a tad too small). I'll post up dimensions and calcs for the Eldar Phoenix, Valkyrie, and Thunderbolt later when I get home from work and measure them all up together - these are the only 3 aircraft that I own both the 40k and AI models for. If anyone has a 40k Marauder Destroyer, Barracuda, Tiger Shark I'd be happy to compare their measurements to the AI models. Conversely, if anyone has an AI/Epic Vulture I can compare the other way as I have the 40k model. I can get a friend to measure his FW Thunderhawk up for comparison too, although going from the FW posted length of 480mm that converts to 102mm at AI/Epic scale, and I measured the AI Thunderhawk last night at 90mm without the engine (so 95 or so with it), putting the Thunderhawk just a tad undersize - although the FW posted size could be rounded up |

That's enormous dear boy Thanks for the pics though I have to say that having just ordered a load of AI goodies not including the TH (as I have several SG ones) I am now forced to reconsider. |

Yes it looks like the Thunderhawk comes with the option of either the Battlecannon or the Turbolaser! Cool. |

(Evil and Chaos @ Feb. 01 2007,10:13) QUOTE Yes it looks like the Thunderhawk comes with the option of either the Battlecannon or the Turbolaser! Cool. Yep, it does No use in AI (Thunderhawks don't get the battlecannon option), but the model is designed to be used with Epic too which is why the alternative is included. |

Which Marine list is it that has the Turbolaser-armed Thunderhawk in it? |

The Turbolaser is a standard weapon for a Thunderhawk in AI. It's under Space Marines in the squadron list. If you meant to ask which has the Battlecannon, I can't tell you - I don't play Epic, and I don't have a 40k Thunderhawk yet, so I've never bothered checking. UPDATE: just checked the Epic rules, and the Battlecannon is the Thunderhawk standard weapon in there, couldn't see a Turbolaser option. 40k is the only ruleset that allows either weapon to be used - Imperial Armour Volume 2 has both weapons listed for the Thunderhawk and they are interchangeable at no cost. |
