Well, it is now the 4th, and I would guess that these rule books should be filtering through shortly. So, has anyone got their book? Is it a signed copy? What races will they collect and did they get any other minis for the games launch? |

Mine arrived all of 5 minutes ago...nearly missed the courier! It is signed which is always nice to have. As for minis...well all really...I have some ork stuff (FW) already for Epic and I have picked up a bit of air included in lots on ebay. So I have a smattering of imperial, eldar and tau. For the release I picked up some Lightnings (attack and strike) and Chaos Hell Blades....I was after some anyway so this appeared as good a time as any. Also did anyone notice the odd pricing? eg. Hell Blades - standard ?10 aeronautica ? 12 (so effectively you are getting an Aeonautica stand free assuming ?1 each since you can get 5 for ?5). Lightnings (either) standard ?10 aeronautica ?10... Thunderbolts standard ?10 aeronautica ?12...?? There are a few others like that so worth keeping an eye on. I did order some Eldar but no sign...not even on the order (but on the email confirmation)...so I have to ring them about that. The last time I tried to order Eldar they had suffered a power failure, the payment had gone awry and was processed again...still no sign of that either....maybe someone is trying to tell me something ![]() Maybe the older Eldar models don't want to replaced and end up on ebay ![]() |

Well, hopefully that means I'll have a message from the royal mail when I get in tonight. Saying I'll have to go to the sorting office to pick mine up before work tomorrow. |

Reading the posts, I had a quick check... but no, nothing arrived for me today! I always get my stuff delivered to work, so I hope that it arrives tomorrow or I will need to wait until Monday! There is news that the Eldar and Tau fliers are currently out of stock. They will be around when FW cast up some more, but there will be a delay with them. The pricing thing caught my eye as well. I guess that it is a loose addition of one pound extra per aircraft... or a standard 'ten pounds goes to twelve pounds' calculation. I ordered the book, and then put in an order for a couple of minis earlier this week (beginning of a new month!). I will be concentrating on Chaos and Orks, so picked up a pack of fighters for each. I am mostly interested in dogfight battles, not so much ground attack stuff. I am also sure that I will be thinking up a list of upgrade skills, and putting together an advancement system for pilots and craft... a project for the boards I think! |

I could be wrong, but someone at FW said the upgrade skills / experience thing was part of the rules already... Can anyone who's already got a copy confirm? Regards, Reaver |

Well, the contents on the FW site indicate an 'Air Superiority Campaign'... but I dont know if that includes a list of (race specific) skills, and craft upgrades - and a 'campaign growth' system. |

Even if it did, I'm sure we would create our own version. Alas, my copy didn't arrive yesterday either. Hopefully it will arrive today, so I can start writing rules for a tyranid air swarm ![]() |

My order didn;t go throught and I have no way to contact FW.... CC - Send me your details and I will contact FW for you, if you like. Even if it did, I'm sure we would create our own version. That is what I am talking about. I would like this board to be the focus of fan-based AI development. Potential initial topics: - development and growth system - integration into EA (if possible) - new craft for the established races - Tyranid fliers - Dark Eldar (I really want to collect a wing for these guys - they will go against my Orks: The Big Max ![]() So, if ragnarok is working on the Tyranids, and I will look at the Dark Eldar... volunteers? ![]() |

True... but since we have no idea about what they look like or what their capabilities are... or even if they exist, I wouldnt like to speculate on them. All the we have to go on, is this (and that is only really good for BFG conversions - Fra'al!). |

Regarding skills, upgrades etc. well the short answer is that there are none (to speak of). Now down to specifics: 1) Skill Rating. In the advanced rules (2 pages worth) pilot skill ratings are introduced and have default values based on the race/force eg. Imperial Navy 4+, Chaos 5+. Eldar 3+ etc. There is allowance for different quality levels eg. green.veteran... the pilots of a particular force are all the same. There are two exceptions a) an ace (5 kills) adds one to their skill and b) a double ace (10 kills) gets another plus one. Unsurprisingly this results in the following: Imperial Navy 4+ Imperial Navy Ace 3+ Imperial Navy Double Ace 2+ It is worth noting that 2+ is the best that a pilot can get no matter their starting point...yes that means if the pilot was Eldar there rating would be 3+/2+ (ace)/2+ (double ace). There are a couple of additional advanced actions that use skill checks and they are available to all. No extra fun to be had for aces (bar making extreme manoeuvres - see below) ![]() These are it has to be said altogether basic - ejecting, firing a sustained burst, advanced tailing (opponent forced to reveal next manoeuvre), yo-yoing (effectively slowing down by slight dips and climbs without losing speed), a once per game extreme manoeuvre (ie. make two manoeuvres one after the other) and finally emergency maneouvres. The last comes into play if an aircraft performs a manoeuver which results in a stall ie. speed drops below minimum for that type, crashes into the ground or exceeds its maximum ceiling. Normally any of these events would result in the immediate destruction of the aircraft. Now if the pilot passes a skill check (skill or higher on D6) it is averted eg. if it is a stall then speed is set to the minimum speed required. 2) Upgrades. Limited to pre-defined additional weapon loadouts eg. Thunderbolt - 20 points with additional weapon load +4 (no need to specify the exact loadout on purchase; you are only paying for the option. Note: the makeup of said load is based on the aircraft type). For the Thunderbolt Weapons as standard - quad autocannon & twin lascannon Additional weapon loads (pick one): 1) mix of Hellstrike & Skystrike missiles. 2) Hellstrike missiles. 3) Bombs. 4) Skystrike missiles. As a final note the advanced section also adds fuel, ammunition, night fighting, weather and terrain heights. |
