Got my first 6mm figs today.  Basically a small sampling to see a) if I like painting in this scale and b) if I like gaming at this scale.  What arrived in my mailbox today was a blister of Andrayada Infantry and another of Hubries (but it would appear most here are familiar with them already) as well as six Command Horizon tanks.  

I ordered three each of medium tanks with medium weapons and heavy tanks with heavy weapons (yeah I know, real imaginative  :D ).  You can't Google "Baccus 6mm" withought seeing people saying how good the minis are and IMHO they live up to this reputation with the CH line (at least the ones that I've gotten so far).  The castings are well done.  From a beginner's POV in this scale, the designs are simple to not be intimidating but do have details to keep them interesting.  There is a very slight line resulting from a mold offest in both the heavy and medium tank bodies, but it is very minor and should be easy to deal with once I remember where I hid my files from my kids.  To be honest, I think the offset is less than the thickness of my XACTO blades.  The turrets are well cast also.  The turrets do have more greeblies on them than the tank hulls and do a lot to add visual interest.  The weapon barrels were bent when I received them, but I suppose that's only to be expected with a piece of metal thinner than what I normally use to pin larger scale miniatures.  A nice touch with the turrets is that there's a reference card telling you what the weapons on the sprue are supposed to represent and correspond with a number on the spure.  Each set of 3 tanks includes 3 sprues with three different weapon options.  I see lots of opportunities for the leftover turrets.  Really, I think the only complaint is that they didn't come with a post to make them "hover."  There is a spot in the bottom of the mini for such a post, but no post is included.  Easy enough to remedy, but being the lazy SOB I am, I'd have liked to see that.  All told, Heritage Studios will be seeing more orders for these and the DRM minis in the future.

I'll post some pics this weekend when I start to prep and paint them.

I have a few of the walkers purchased in a sampler pack.  They are about the size of IG sentinels, but bulkier.  Where Sentinels lean more towards AT-STs in appearance, Baccus walkers look more like an ED 209 (but with longer legs).  

IMO, they would make great Sentinal proxies and have (I think) 3 varieties to mix things up a bit.

One of the things in the range I really like is the scout personnel carriers.  About the size of a Land Speeder, they're just really cool.

The Skim Fighters are really nice too, but soooooo small.

The Medium and Heavy tanks are probably my favourite models in this range and what I'd be most tempted to buy. ?My only quiblle is that I think they'd look even better with tracks, but judging by your pictures it wouldn't be too difficult to sculpt/cast some up and add them (looks at Vermis & Otterman... :blues:  :;):  :laugh: )

Nice, the choice of turrets is great, hmmm how many uses can you think up?  :laugh:
Size is a little off for Epic though change it from heavy to light and not a problem  :D

Yes, that's my thoughts ... they would make good lgt. or med. AFVs for Epic ... The concept of "fighting" at plt. strength vs. ind. AFVs is an interesting idea ...

Look like they'd fit with the GZG Dirtside stuff quite well, both in scale and designs.  Similarly, you can use the bigger pieces ok as Epic units successfully.

When I get them painted I'll post some pics, might even do a comparison shot with some CAV tanks for those forums.

Started working on some bases for them this morning.  Plan is to make three masters and cast them in resin so I don't have make individual bases from scratch for each one.

Alrighty got 'em cleaned up; made some master bases with chunks of a "for sale" sign from Wal-Mart, textured paste, and a little green stuff; made an RTV mold; cast the bases; cast the bases again because I didn't get all the air bubbles out of the post; primed and painted them.  These aren't to my usual standard, but are instead to my exacting "get them done now" standard. The tanks were painted with Reaper Master Series Paint (Sapphire Blue, Misty Grey, and Brown Liner to be exact),  the bases and white stripes are craft paint.  Please ignore the similarity of the blue with the blue used by a certain military-religious organization from a certain other game, it's purely coincidence.  Here you go:

Mediums with twin medium gun turrets

Heavies with single heavy gun turrets

Advancing through an urban complex that contains giant bottles of craft paint and other stuff


Some of thoughts after giving them a go:
1) I really like them
2) In the process of removing the mold shift on the side of the models the panel lines disappeared, not a big issue, just re-cut them with a knife-edge file, but slightly deeper panel lines would've prevented that
3) Gun barrels are very thin.  I was going to use the Heavy Laser turret on the heavies, but the barrel broke off on two of them as I was filing mold lines. If I had some really thin brass rod and a small enough drill bit I would've replaced them, but I didn't so I went with another turret.  If you have the rod, I recommend replacing the barrels.
4) All that aside, they were easy to paint despite a bit of a primer malfunction (had no tooth to it.  Probably could've used the airbrush on them, but seemed to be too much effort to get it set up for just six tanks.

Thanks!  All the buildings are JR Miniatures product.  Making some buildings of my own for casting is waaay down the list of modelling projects.
