Got my EW Infantry from Shapeways. Pretty satisfied ... They look just like in the pics on Shapeways. Should paint up well.

First step with all resin cast models is to clean off the greasy mold releaser. It seems the best way is to soak in dish washing soap & hot water. Then lightly brush with soft old tooth brush. Anyone have an better input for FUD ? :sos

Good luck.
Hopefully not too grainy or brittle.
I have often been disappointed with shapeways items on receipt so sounds like you are off to a good start.

Thanks Lyle ! I'm finding they are a bit brittle but not too bad. I won't know how grainy they will be until I base coat them. So I'll just have to take my time and be a little careful. I probably would have liked them in metal better, but I'll work with what I got. I'll post some pics of the basic FUD models so all can see what they look like before I base coat them. In a day or two ... 8)

Forgot to tell you on your FB post: get yourself a sheet of 2000 grit sandpaper and clean up the edges where the striations are bad. Curved surfaces are notorious

Thanks again JZ ! But since they are Infantry I won't have to do that. Once I clean all of them I will base coat with Enamel ... And that should give me a better idea if there are any real "problems" ... Plus they are Infantry and can be a little fragile around the axles ... But so far, everything is "good" generally ...

As promised ... pics of the raw Shapeways EW Infantry ... They are soaking to get off the greasy mold releaser, at this time ...

1) RE Cmd pack ...

2) RE Cbt Eng ... Love the RPG ...

Note: They are a little fragile around the ankles, adding to the "challenge" of painting ... But we'll see ... 8)

All my EW SW troops are cleaned an assigned to units. They have proved to be a little fragile. So I'm mixing them with the metal EW figs.

With the SW Resin in the middle of the stand generally.

They are too fragile to sand the bases to fit the standard GW stands, etc.

So I'm going to do what I have done before. I'll just flip the bases over and glue directly to the underside. It would have taken forever to sand each base to fit the holes !!! :o I'll do this with my FW Epic Tau as well for the same reason. Not gamer or game friendly ... :tut

I did this with my original AT/SM1 metal Marines as here :

Post subject:  Re: I couldn't Pass up Cyber Monday !!!!

Here's what I posted on FB ... Just FYI ... Here's my main complaint with some model makes ... Thin ankles and and arms sticking too far out are not modelling or gamer friendly. I love the various poses ... but e.g. if you look at some of these figures they are an accident waiting to happen. They might be better in metal, but I have figures with their arm sticking out like you see on a couple figures here. And those are hard to keep from breaking, even when painting in some cases. So one has to be very careful. Regardless a note to all model makers, I love detail ... but I don't like fragile. And some poses or weapons, etc. are just not strong enough to use with out concern. E.g. I've got some 6mm figs with potato masher/stikk bomm type weapons. I probably wouldn't use them to game with ... those would not last long on the gaming table, IMO ... >:( :nooo :gah Case in point ...
