Variants: Open topped, Close Topped The Legions initially scorned the concept of a self propelled artillery piece. In the Tarragin Crusades they could always count on the fire support from orbiting star ships, fighters or massed rocket batteries kept well behind the lines. However, after many Legionnaires struggled to get fire support due to late or inadequate resource allocation, a decision was made to provide them with a mobile source of heavy fire support. After 7 years of development, M&M industries came up with the Peltast. A small quantity were made and employed against the Tarragin with great success. Later they were modified to be powerful enough to penetrate a Khazari kinetic barrier. They proved their worth in the Krondal IV campaign when Khazari AA proved to be impenetrable and star fighters were relegated to orbital patrol duties. Whilst they were unable to evade detection from Khazari counter battery fire, they proved hardy enough to suppress the Khazari forces and give the Legions the breakthrough they required. They are now a permanent fixture in the Legion?s motor pool. |

(Chroma @ Apr. 01 2008,14:46) QUOTE (netepic @ Apr. 01 2008,12:32) QUOTE After 7 years of development, M&M industries came up with the Peltast. Seven years seems an awful long time for the development of a mobile howitzer... But the concept sounds cool! It does seem quite a while - although the FRES armoured vehicles started design in 1998 and aren't slated to enter production until 2012. Whilst I'll admit the Guild is certainly not as cash strapped as the UK military. It has other concerns, mainly in producing a vehicle that is competitive for the export market, can be mass produced, is easily repaired and has low maintenance. All these factors need to be weighed in at design time as so to mitigate later issues. Plus, making a vehicle that can grace the same battlefield as the Khazari and has a chance of survival is no simple prospect ![]() ![]() |

(Dwarf Supreme @ Apr. 01 2008,14:23) QUOTE You know, you really shouldn't tease is us like this without pics of the Peltast. ![]() Teasing?!? Oh man... how can you accuse me of such a thing :|. I am deeply wounded. Ajax Class Frigate Designed By: Mannis Shipyards Displacement: 5.5kt Length: 163 metres Speed: 3 Crew: 250 ship crew, 50 Legionnaires. Armament: 1 x Laser Cannon 2 x Laser Emitters 2 x Quad Phoenix Missile Launchers Light Anti-Ordnance Blistering Fighter Compliment: 2 Cyclops Electronic Warfare Fighters The Ajax Class Frigate is a multipurpose frigate designed to deliver ordnance against ships, fighters and ground targets. They are equipped with sophisticated command and control centres to act as flagships for system patrol fleets. Equipped with a heavy arsenal of weapons, it is at its best when acting in concert with the Spartan Light Carrier. They are capable of defending it from enemy fighter attacks with their Laser Emitters, or destroying starships from a distance with missile launchers, or up close with its powerful Laser Cannon. As befits its role it has two Cyclops allowing it to patrol much larger areas of space than one ship would normally be able to cover. They provide it with a dedicated recon solution, they can assist the local star fighter garrison in combat by providing targeting support and they can provide a localised command presence. Please note these are development stats and do you reflect the end product, they are being used in playtesting and in no way can we be held responsible if the final product does not resemble the above stats, nor if the final product gets scrapped to make way for more 6mm midgets after a late night drinking session |
