A Hoplon MkII sounds GREAT to me!

It might be going overboard with the whole modularity thing, but it might be possible to make a kit consisting of a front chassis (like the MARP/current Hoplon) and an interchangable rear part that allows you to build either a halftrack or a more conventional wheeled design. On top you could then have a standard turret socket allowing you to add stuff like IFV turrets, APC turrets or a new soft top canvas bit. Come to think of it, it is probably possible to merge this with another front end to make the 6 wheel APC/Gladius Mk2 from the same kit.

That would mean: 2xfront pieces (truck and APC), 2x rear end (halftrack and wheels), standard top turret plug that allows you to add any currently available EW standard turret + one new soft top turret.

That would allow you to build the following models:
1xtruck
1xHoplon Mk2
1xGladius Mk2
1x new wheeled IFVs (The turrets on the Paris and Hector IFVs always looked a tad small on the MBT Chassis, but they would be really nice on a chassis about the size of a Hoplon)

Question is if this requires too much assembly for the average modeller to bother fiddeling about with it?

You can never have too much modularity.

Here's my take, though.

1 Hoplon kit, with truck front and halftrack rear
1 Gladius kit, with APC front and wheeled rear
1 Trailer kit, with tow hitch front and canvas covered rear

Mix to suit.

What is a tow hitch front? Do you have a link?

No, because effin Forgeworld discontinued their trailers, apparently.

I'm thinking of a kit that would allow you to build a cargo trailer with a canvas roof. The rear would be a cargo bed with canvas roof and a single axle, compatible with the Hoplon or Gladius front halves. The front would be an a-frame trailer hitch, like on a boat trailer, with a thin section to mate to the rear halves of the Hoplon, Gladius, or it's own kit.

A tow hitch is the "yoke" usually shaped like a ^ at the front of the trailer. With a hook up point at the top of the ^, like an "O" to hook up to the towing vehicle's tow hook ...

Thenks, L4. Your description was better and far less wordy than mine. ;)

Almost all our vehicles in the Army had trailers and tow hooks. Even our M113s could tow a trailer ... ;) So it was "business as usual" to hook up trailers. ;)

My vote....I want a truck. 4x4 or perhaps 6x6. Canvas top or open backed. If you really feel the need put a HMG on top of the cab.

BTW, I have Hoplons (use them as Recon vehicles in my NetEpic PDF/Frateris army). Probably a bit too small to really carry 10 men, it is a half track (that's bad), and to be honest the newer CAD stuff you guys are doing is a truck-load better than the older vehicles, if you'll excuse the pun.

I wouldn't mind a neat wheeled MBT. 8x8 with big wheels and a proppa big gun turret. Modular to accept other existing EW turrets would be neat.

Oh, Good news! Do you have an ETA for when we will be able to order the miniatures from the store?

I'm guessing it will be a little while before we see these new vehicle designs ... This is the latest release dates Tom has posted recently ... Guild Gurdan Dragons: 12 to a pack (they are big!) released on May 1st.
Guild Gurdan Lancers: 12 to a pack, released on May 14th.(Gurdan - quadropod's, huge beasties oft hired as shock troops in mercenary armies.)
Royal Empire Conscripts: June 1st
Royal Empire Heavy Weapons: June 14th
Royal Empire Assault Infantry: July 1st

Hi,
I plan to start building an imperial guard army.
Naturally I decided to go for exodus wars (and DRM) miniatures.

The new roayl empire looks fantastic, can you tell me approximately when it will be released? if it is not too long I'll wait with some of my purchases so I can get these minis.

thanks :).
