Hello! ?I just thought I'd post my wip Guard Army List for the Call to Arms tournament which I hope to make it to. ?It's by no means final, and I just wondered what constructive suggestions anyone had on improving it. ?Anyway, here it is:

Colossian 23rd Mechanised Recon

Tournament Imperial Guard List

Regimental HQ (+ Hydra) 550 pts

Infantry Company (+Snipers) 300 pts

Armoured Company (+ Hydra) 700 pts

Sentinel Squadron 100 pts

Artillery Battery (Basilisks) 250 pts

Shadowsword 200 pts

Warhound Titan 250 pts

Warhound Titan 250 pts

Marauder Bombers 300 pts

TOTAL: 2,850 pts

I've tried to go for an all-round feel to it. ?The Infantry Company will garrison, as the Sentinels may well do - although I read that they are really useful for protecting Artillery detachments from assaults!

If you can think of anything I should include, here are some other units/models I can include:

- 3 Demolisher Tanks
- 1 more Hydra
- 2 detachments of Rough Riders (well, bikers, but I'll count them as Rough Riders)
- 2 Ogryns
- 6 more Chimeras

When I started putting this army together it had a fully tooled up Mechanised Infantry company (extra platoon, Orgyns, Snipers), but my experience at the Full Scale Assault tournament last month made me realise it might be better to go for smaller, and therefor more numerous detachments!
:D

Thanks for looking, and for any advice! ?

Are you going to the club challenge at all?

Infantry Company (+Snipers) 350 pts
- This should be 300
250 inf + 50 snipers.

Shadowsword 300 pts
- This should be 200

Marauder Bombers 300 pts
- AAArrrrrgggg.
Awful things, really no use. If you want air power I'll lend you 4 thunderbolts on the day!

although I read that they are really useful for protecting Artillery detachments from assaults!

You should consider using the basilisks as bait, at only 250 points they aren't worth protecting with anything out of ordinary.

Well, you have another 150 points to start with! (Is call to arms not 2700?)
So thats a load of horses or a mech upgrade.

Replace those bombers with something.

You need more flak - thats planes or hydra.

What style do you want to play?

Me its always counter attack with lots of rt.

Thanks for pointing out the errors, Chris - don't know how they got through...

If Call to Arms is 2,700 points, I may well not bother altering this list too much - I'll try and get some Thunderbolts if Marauders aren't much cop!

Does anyone else have any experiences with Marauders - is the general consensus that they're not very good?

Other than that, I may well try and squeeze that extra Hydra in there too...

Call to Arms should be 3000pts.

I'll have a proper look at the list and comment later.

Tim

Firestorm:  Marauders aren't very good for IG.  You can get more barrage power from arty with long enough range to reach anything that Marauders could hit.

Overall, I pretty much agree with Chris's assessment but he is much more of an IG expert than I am so do it because he says so, not because of my opinion.

Hi Hadleigh,

I get the points total to 2900 for this list.

If you can only add things in from your extras list I would include the hydra and ogryns.

Regards the Maruarders as others have said you would be better with either an artillery battery (and chimeras for the ogryns) or fighters (they perform better for their points and would give you an extra activation).Again if you can only swap for what is in your extras I would go for the RRs.

Had a proper look now and I have to agree with everybody else.

I make it that you have 2900pts there and I agree that the Hydra and Ogryns are the best choice for the extra points.

Plus Marauders are not effective in the current game. What you replace them with is upto you as per your style of play. Personnally I would have some rough riders and more Hydras.

See you at C2A or WPS Club Challenge if you can make it. One more week to get your entry forms in.

Tim.

Thanks for your advice everyone!    I've ade some alterations to the list, and here is version 1.5:

Regimental HQ: 500 pts

Infantry Company (+Ogryns, Snipers): 350 pts

Armoured Company : 650 pts

Sentinel Squadron: 100 pts

Artillery Battery (Basilisks): 250 pts

Shadowsword: 200 pts

Flak Battery: 150 pts

Warhound Titan: 250 pts

Warhound Titan: 250 pts

Thunderbolt Squadron: 150 pts

Thunderbolt Squadron: 150 pts

TOTAL: 3,000 pts

I think I've got the numbers right this time, too!

I've tried to make it an 'all-round' list, but is it a case of 'Jack of all trades, master of none'?

Thanks for looking and for any suggestions!

I favour attaching the flak, at least then it goes where I need it and isn't as vulnerable to breaking! You do loose an activation though.
