According to the publication Jane's Defence Weekly, the British Army is revamping the structure of its brigade to include light infantry, mechanized, and armored units. This kind of remind me of some of the imperial guard army list that are structured the same way. |

Usually, heavy units are grouped with other heavy units. Light units are grouped together with other light units. The British Army reorganization is somewhat unusual. However, you do have heavy units reorganized as light units, ex. U.S. Army units in Iraq. So, instead of using tanks, heavy APCs or IFVs, and artillery, they would used lightly armored vehicles such as Humvees, Land Rovers, a lightly armored wheeled APCs, or trucks. |

Yes, I've followed how the US Army is organizing for combat in Iraq and Afghanistan. More then once in my previous military experiances almost 2 decades ago, I've seen units task organize in such a manner. For example, a Bde task organization consisting of a Tank Bn, a leg Infantry Bn and a Mech Bn in the ROK. Or a Bde with 1 Tank Bn, 1 Mech Bn and 1 Air Assault Bn, in the Desert. The US Army is going to Bde sized units called Units of Action (UAs). Task organized like the old RCTs. |
