Could you run the numbers on the following with your system:

2x Battlecannons (75cm, AP4+ / AT4+)

Vulcan Mega Bolter (45cm, 4x AP3+ / AT5+)


I'm considering adopting the VMB Macharius into the Death Korps armylist, and my gut says possibly a 25pt price increase.

Attacks = 2
Avg. To-hit = 0.50
15cm Range Brackets = 5

2 * 0.50 * 5 = 5.000

Twin-linked Battlecannons

Attacks = 1
Avg. To-hit = 0.667
15cm Range Brackets = 5

1 * 0.667 * 5 = 3.333

Vulcan Mega Bolter

Attacks = 4
Avg. To-hit = 0.50
15cm Range Brackets = 3

4 * 0.50 * 3 = 6.000


Note: I don't agree with those stats for the Vulcan Mega Bolter.

So according to your system, the normal Macharius gun has a power quotient of 5, whilst the VMB Macharius gun has a power quotient of 6. Cheers.


You want to change the VMB across the board, for every unit that can use it in Epic?

Oh boy...

All of this is my opinion and has a heavy dose of prior discussion history.

I think those stats are wrong for 2 reasons:

1) I believe that the Imperial Titan weapons should try to reflect the stats that were presented for them back in the SM/TL version of the rules.  Those stats are the most interesting and diverse ones of all of the editions of Epic.  While some of the weapons stats as presented in the rulebook (including the ones on p.165) are pretty good, there are some that, IMHO do a poor job of reflecting prior art.  Among those weapons that reflect poorly is the VMB.

2) I believe that all of the titan weapons should be as equal as possible to each other in regards to stats so that they can be interchangeable without concerns about points cost.  It is from this belief that my "system" came about.

When I first applied my system to all of the Imperial titan weapons I noticed that a lot of them came out to be around 6 points.  I then set about to generate stats so that all of them would be around 6 points and better reflect what they were like previously.  After that Jervis came out with revised stats that raised the rating of the Gatling Blaster, Turbo-Laser Destroyer, and the Rocket Launcher, with the Gatling Blaster & the Turbo-Laser Destroyer going to a rating of 8.  I then went about generating stats to raise everything to an 8.

In SM/TL the VMB was a very short ranged weapon with a very high rate of fire.  Given that, and the name of the weapon (Vulcan Mega Bolter) I figured that the range should be decreased to 30cm and the rate of fire raised to compensate.  The end result was a weapon that had a very high ROF that many felt was too high.  

In an effort to tone down the perceived excessive ROF, to take advantage of the assault rules that SM/TL did not have, and to address what I saw to be a weakness in lack of FF weapons for titans I came up with stats for the VMB that had ranged attacks and added FF attacks.

My suggestions:

for a 6 rated VMB

Range: 30cm
5x AP3+/AT5+
+2 FF Attacks

for a 8 rated VMB

Range: 30cm
6x AP3+/AT5+
+4 FF Attacks
