I thought Koshi was interested in AC:ing this.

Well, yes. I'll give this list a chance.

I was looking through the NetEA Army Compendium and came across the Crusade list a few weeks ago. My initial thoughts were simply that it was mixing a Steel Legion list with a Codex list without much restriction and without any downsides really. Which is a shame as the list also had me thinking about the Imperial armies from the days of Epic 40K where the Imperial player could pick and choose his formations from across the different arms of the Imperium depending on what he wanted or felt he needed.

So I thought about simply mixing the basic Guard units with the basic Marine units and left out as many of the party-tricks of both lists as I dared. I've intentionally hacked out a majority of the list as I'd rather start weak and tweak it stronger than try and tone it down at every turn. What are your thoughts to a list that would look something like this?

Strategy 2. Maybe say that the Supreme Commander Reroll may not be taken on Space Marine formations to represent the disrupted chain of command and the possible arrogance of the Space Marines? And probably no Commissars as an extra nerf if needed. I'm guessing the Commissars' particular brand of 'inspiration' won't be that inspiring next to true godlike heroes ;)

Each Guard Company taken allows the selection of two Support formations, one of which may be a Space Marine Support formation.

Guard Companies

0-1 Regimental HQ (standard Steel Legion one, 500pts)
Mechanised Infantry Company (standard Steel Legion one, 400 pts)
Leman Russ Tank Company (standard Steel Legion one, 650 pts)
Super-Heavy Tank Company (possibly Babeblades only? 500pts)

Standard Guard upgrades but possibly no Ogryns?

Guard Support formations

Artillery Battery (Basilisks only, 250pts)
Sentinels (standard, 100pts)
Super-Heavy Tank Platoon (Baneblade or Shadowsword? 200pts)
Hydra Battery (standard, 150pts)
Possibly Rough Riders?

Marine Support formations

Initiative 1+. ATSKNF. Standard Codex upgrades but no Land Raiders (except for Terminators) and only one SM Commander in the army (no SM SC)

Tactical (275)
Devastator (250)
Assault (175)
Predators (250)
0-1 Terminators (350)

Titan/Navy Support

NO Strike Cruiser/Battle Barge
NO Thunderhawk?
Standard Imperial Navy orbital support
Thunderbolts (150)
Marauders (250)
Standard Titan support but no single Warhounds

How about you are forced to take a full Battle Company with Captain upgrade? Plus the mentioned Guard units, Strategy value still at two or maybe three? This is not a thing thats forced to be approved as its pretty fluffy anyway :)

The 30k lists allow the 1/3 allies to be taken from another list with a -1 penalty to strategy rating. Just try that ;)
