semajnollissor, I am playing a game tomorrow night where I will be fielding a Bombard formation.  I will let you know they fare (if they fare at all :p ).  Can't say too much more since ePilgrim lurks around here every once and awhile :80: .

Hi!

Yup, then again in netepic they have special advantages to make them useful. :;):

Primarch

They have special advantages in EA as well - specifically blasting apart targets in cover in a satisfying fashion :D

What differentiates them from other guard Arty in netepic?

Hi!

While all artillery can eventually bring down buildings and other fortified structures, bombards can do it in one blast. Their shells are specifically made as siege weapons, thus there is a chance that any structure will crumble to dust on a failed save. \

This is due to the fact that netepic re-introduced structural points to buildings and such. Most artillery just does one point and the possibilities of bringing down a building quickly are almost nil. A bombard however could bring down buildings very quickly since they do more structural damage.

All netepic artillery was "individualized" to give them a distinguishing feature so that they were worth taking.

Basilisks (fires twice)
Manticores (use the extra large templates and has two modes of fire)
Medusa (extra large template)
Bombard (siege weapon)

While the basilisk is an all time favorite for rate of fire, the bombard is still king when many buildings or fortifications form part of the battlefield.

Well if battlefield is heavily builded in EA I would expect bombards to be more common as well. It's just that battlefields also tend to contain stuff like hills and so on as terrain features which don't give cover and ergo aren't terrain that bombard ignores any more than manticore.

But give me cityfight board and I'll know which one I'll grab. Bombard or manticore

I use Bombards in my Siegemaster army. They aren't particularly good against Marines but they are very characterful for the army (Especially the pre-E40K mini).

I always loved the idea of dropping a building around the ears of the infantry hiding inside.

Me, too. I did it last Friday against my nephew. Destroyed a building and four Eldar stands with one shot.

It's fun to place an objective in or near cover, tempting your opponent to deploy a garrison in said terrain and then you delpoy a bombard formation with 90cm.

Cheers

Heh, the bombard has its uses. I agree.

The advent of bugs made me change my IG army building strategy. Like each new list to E:A does - I have to rethink my old army building doctrines.

First, the sheer wounds they can field surpasses that of Siegemasters. AT fire is good and dandy - but the real power of the bugs lies in the numbers and spawning.

Second, they're immune to BM - so Disrupt = so what! Give me ignore cover all day long! That's something the bugs fear!

Third, the bugs spawn. If I can't carve a hole big enough to take out that synapse, I'm wasting ammo. Every other turn firing rate??? No thank you - not against the Xenos meance.

Cheers,

Not being one of those IG artillery weenies, I can't say I've tried using objectives as bait for enemy garrisons.

However, being a proper Orky player, I have frequently used garrisons as bait to draw the enemy out of position.

And yes, that does make Orks cooler.
