I find Bombards quite awesome.

Though I do prefer their Mossinian stats with 5+ armour.

Played a little bit, with experimental BB cannon (2x AP/AT3+)
I deployed both SHT Coy full of BB, and singleton version too.
As Coy, they finally have some firepower worth even when attacking TURN 1, deployment zone with a double.
When I brought it as singleton, I wasn't able to activate it for 3 rounds, and just sitted in the background.
But.
From Hold order fires, the main cannon was always capable to attack someone, on round 1 and 2. (After that a pin-point attack from cruiser insta-killed it.) I might add that the first target were out of fixed forward arc, and would have escaped from Shadowsword, but not the BB!
Both times I caused sufficient amount of hits (lessened dice scatter, compared to the volcanos single 2+), and were glad with this achievement, despite all the failed activations.

Maybe it would be still early to say, but I think the Baneblade earned back it's place (or definietly got very close) next to the Shadowsword variant for the same cost.

Clarification: did you place the range boost as well (seems to be that from your statement CH)

225 for three Basalisks or Bombards, +25pts to upgrade to Manticores.

Sounds good to me.

3 Earthshaker Platforms in the Krieg list are 200 points (and have the advantage of a 6 strong formation size due to the free transporters making them harder to break) so 225 should be ok here.

Actually I don't. We only did boost the damage, with a range of 75 cm as the original.
But that is still very long range, hehe. ;)

So, what's up with this topic? Would be nice to spread it out.

So if there any news to post? I'd like to see those changes. And I like to see them also in other lists which contain the concerned units.

Report on BB cannon: Again we had a play with BB battle cannon modifiication (2x AP3+/AT3+). It was a match beetween SLs.
On both sides a single BB was deployed.

Side A used the BB for mostly advancing and shooting whatever came into range. In most cases, the main cannon stagnated on 1 successful hit. (Can't remember wheter these were saved or not, but a hit is a hit, its always good to roll them for a kill.)
In TURN 2 Side A gained the opportunity to use all weapons against leman russes with an advance order and semi-clear sight (2-3 russ clearly visible from almost full company). The demolisher and the main cannon made 3 AT hits total, all other weapon missed.
In this battle the 3 AT hits killed a total of 2 leman russ due to failing on 4++ armour save.

Side B tried to ram up as close as possible, but failed to activate the BB two times, and mainly pot shotted something from Hold order. Again, the modified battle cannon solidly brought 1 hit successful to the table.

Now comparing to a single shadowsword, the increased number of attacks is very good for BB, since it gives (mostly rare) opportunity to kill more than 1 unit from long range pot shots, also makes BB a valid choice when things not going well. (with loads of hold orders a shadowsword may still keep its firepower potential, with very long range and very good firepower.)
With (more or less) average roll rate, the modified cannon just brings the same 1 successful hit, similar to a shadowsword, but without TK.

For next time I think one more thing would be useful to see (perhaps against different armies): What happens when the "new" BB get to use its full potential of firepower and firefight value.

Hi there!

Further diving into BB cannon. Had some battle with 2x AP3+/AT3+ version against Steel Legion, and Dark Angels recently.
Both case a single BB has managed to get into 30 cm, with an advance order and hammer the target formation with AP fire.
It did quite well, or perhaps too well. I think the BB's original AP firepower is fine already. With this version the additional 3+ shot is very likely to do extra dmg... which may be a bit over the top, should you ever get into range.
While the AT firepower is very much needed to it, and is now satisfyingly works* with the upgunned version.

*It means it can reliably make 1 hit at least.

To merge the two experiences I propose to change the BB cannon to have 2x AP4+/AT3+ firepower.

As a frequent user and target of Baneblades, I can 100% get behind that. I take them because I love the unit but it's sub-optimal as is.

The discussion has been going on for over a year now, has anything been decided on for changes to the list?

I'm just thinking that Dave is putting together the next version of the Tournament Pack, so now would be a good time to include a few small changes if you were going to.

Rug did send us a list, what got approved was:

Artillery Company down to 600 points
Emperor Class Battleship down to 200 points
Griffon Battery down to +50 points
Hellhound Squadron down to +100 points

The rest we were interested in more testing.
