I'd like to have my army painted before I play. Having not played a proper game yet (only training scenarios) makes it somewhat difficult. I was going to just paint what models I liked and eventually get around to painting everything, but I'm getting impatient to play.

So I'd like to know what is your favorite 3000 point Codex Marine list. It doesn't necessarily have to be tailored against a specific army. It could be more of an "all-comers" list, but in the first few games it will mainly be against the Eldar.

I base my lists off of battle companies for the most part.

2 Tacticals
1 Assault
1 Devastor
1 Thunderhawk (for the Assault)

That comes to 1225. I sometimes replace the Thawk and Assault for bikes or landspeeders, that adds another 25-75 points. Two battle companies, some characters, and a vehicle formation or upgrades is what I usually use in a 3k game. The lists are pretty decent, you'll have problems against WEs though.

The list I'm testing for next year's Games Day looks like this:

400 Tactical - SC
350 Tactical - Cm
350 Tactical - Ch
350 Tactical - Ch
200 Land Speeder
200 Land Speeder
250 Land Speeder - Tornadoes
250 Land Speeder - Tornadoes
325 Devastor - Hunter
325 Devastor - Hunter

They're fast and work well in tandem supporting each other. The Tornadoes may be replaced with Bikes however.  That will also free up 100 points for me. We'll see.

An example drop list is

Strike Cruiser
Terminators
Reaver
Thunderbolts
Thawk
Some other stuff (speeders, scouts, chaplains and librarians etc) according to taste. Also can do 2-3 warhounds instead of the Reaver and so on.

-Thunderbolts 150pts

Again based on a battle company formation but this time with drop pods and such; might need a few more newer modles that you don't have but it IS fun! I mifht also drop the t.bolts or something like that...
