As my current epic armies are getting bit full(never thought I would say that ) and with chaos hopefully released soon(I'm banking on autumn release window) I figured it could be nice time to start new army. And with chaos being close to my heart what's better option.
Now if you know me you know I have made my own lists for every army I have, barring space marines because codex chapter is codex chapter and ergo changing army list just doesn't make sense. This doesn't come out of me not LIKING official list(barring AMTL) but rather out of wishing to make list that suits my fluff for campaign better and to make army lists with it's own interesting twists.
So. I'm going to go for this route for chaos list(and lost&damned and eventually variant Imperial lists to fight against them). And after some thinking I opted to use my 40k chaos marines for them, the Crimson Angels who are successor chapter from Blood Angels and born as an attempt to get rid of that bloody Black Rage. Unfortunatly the efforts only managed to hide it and when it does surface(though takes conciderably more time than normally does for Blood Angels) it's basicly straight to red thirst stage.
This eventually caused themselves being forced to exile which embittered them toward Imperium and are now fighting against them with only vengeance for their Betrayal in mind. They aren't worshipping chaos gods fully but Khorne gives them some patronage as they certainly have started to enjoy spilling blood in close quarters(though not to degree of world eaters etc).
The setting for these will be industrial/hive world where chaos cult rose and took control. Imperium responds and sends reinforcements and Crimson Angels, noticing heavy movement of hated Imperials, decide to join in the fun(so they aren't technicly there to help the chaos cult though fight against same enemy). There's not much of open space in planet anymore, most of dry ground being covered by cities, so it's cityfight campaign(which is reflected in that games are played in cities, not in open gaming fields).
So without further ado link to list is Epic: Crimson tide.
It's still WIP as I'm trying to think solutions to several problems:
-Titans. How on earth are they supposed to deal with them? They don't have titans of their own. I'm thinking of possibility of adding super heavies to list but Imperial ones they didn't have when they escaped to The Eye and chaos ones in the black legion list wouldn't help much. Maybe I'll just have to invent my own super heavy there(as a matter of fact one rough idea is there). -Air craft. As it is I'm wondering wether I can justify adding chaos aircraft there. I'm seriously tempted to add the FW chaos models as they are so BEATIFULL models but I'm trying to decide wethers it's justifiable by fluff I have in mind for them.
Some notes:
-There's no ATKSNF. I did concider adding it as a twist to chaos marines but in the end I decided that the ATKSNF doesn't represent as such that loyal marines are more courageous but rather that chaos marines aren't as willing to lay their lives for something and instead are more willing to retreat if situation is tough. Crimson Angels don't fight for any particular thing. Not for Emperor, not for Chaos God. Just for vengeance and I figured their attitude is that if they retreat they can live to fight again in another day rather than die now in foolish show.
-I'm tad worried about point costs in that are they tad too cheap. I tried to use chaos marines as a guide but the automatic chaos lord upgrade complicates things a bit.
Anyway if you have any comments they are appreciated. I'll be updating the list as I have time to work with it. I'll also be revisiting the fluff as it's quite old by now(when was new chaos codex released for 40k? Around that time).
EDIT: I have added rough version of the chaos cult variant there. Note it's actually slaanesh cult(barring death brigade that is undivined) while Crimson Angels are Khorne faction. Should add interesting twist to games where both are present. I justified this by the Crimson Angels being mostly undivined at the core. I concidered making cult khorne as well but decided to add more variety. Nurgle...Nah me not like. Tzeentch similary doesn't interest me that much and finally those slaanesh scout titans are something I want to have. Did limit their number on principle that the time they had to produce engines of war before Imperial fleet arrived they wouldn't be able to produce that many of them.
