Playtested the Black templars lis last night against orton with his Thousand Sons at 2700 points. I took a Emperors Champion (EC) and was unable to employ him gainfully. The tactical det he was attached to advanced took an objective was ejected by a FF assault by two Chaso units. They advanced again to contest the same objective, without the need to engage the Chaos unit as it had been broken by another of my formations. They sat on the objective and absorbed fire for the remainder of the game.
I dont think that the EChould be limited to Tactical Dets. I think that the EC should be an option for any of the BT infantry units. i haven't read the codex on this as yet to see what 40k has to say about it. What do you think gang?
I am also considering adding a Sword Brethren det to my list. With 6 units for 275 points(no TPT) at this stage. Stats are
TYPE ARMOUR CC FF INF 4+ 3+ 5+
WEAPON RANGE FIREPOWER NOTES BOLT PISTOLS 15CM SMALL ARMS POWER WEAPONS BASE CONTACT ASSAULT WPN MWEA+1
NOTES; FEARLESS, INFILTRATOR
My other idea for the BT is to give them the special rule of fealess in assaults, which matches their 40k rule.
Let me know what you think

Off the top of my head, I'm fairly sure the EC can't have a jump pack in 40K.
Sword Bretheren units are all well and good, but note that there is no 'veteran' detachment in a Codex list. Sword Bretheren would really just be the Terminator detachment...

Mate
The BT's are by far the most detached Chapter from the codex. Strenght estimated at above 5000 marines in the new codex BT. This list is purposely not going to follow standard guidelines as the BT's do not. It will have its limitations, following the guideline in the Codex, limitation on support weapons, emphasis on assaulting troops. The SB in MK7 is an experiment at this stage if they do not work then I will discard them. As for the EC, the limitation will be to SB and Crusader Dets. I have a few more cards up my sleeve, and all will be revealed when the list is finnished.

The idea is that they are going to be an assault troop, to fit their 40K role, infiltrate allows them to double their movement on a charge, allowing them to close the gap and get into CC rather than ending up in a FF in assaults.
