I'm a bit concerned by the fact that Marines only seem to be winning 33% of their games. I'm also concerned that not many players take Land Raiders.

Obviously changing the stats can't be done, and dropping the points mucks up the rest of the SM list.

One way round it seems to me to let Land Raiders do the one thing that sets them apart from other tanks - act as transport. In 40K rhinos and razorbacks are restricted to transporting units they are part of, and in EA this is the same. However, in 40K Land Raiders picked as Heavy Support choices can transport any unit.
So why not let Land Raiders in EA transport any formation that doesn't have transports? (Either due to starting without them or having their rhinos blown away!) It's not such a big change, after all, Thunderhawks can do this. But it does make the list viable as a ground based force, not just air attack.

So you can teleport Terminators in, then go in and pick them up with a Land Raider formation. Or if your Tactical formation loses it's rhinos, the Land Raiders can pick them up and get them away from that rampaging Ork mob.

It isn't a huge change, but makes the SM list work much better as a fast moving attack force. They don't get as bogged down and can still move to take objectives after the first couple of turns. It also justifies the 30 quid I spent on Land Raider models!

What do you think?

I think it's silly that Land Raiders can't transport anything.

And i think that fits the fluff.
You have LandRaiders as ther own formation. There they act as MBT.
And you have them attached to a given formation. There they act as heavy armored transport.

The LandRaider is the only tank whoch is capable to do so.

You don't have formations which consists only of Rhinos or Razorbacks :)

But i think LandRaiders should be available as transports for Tactical Detachments too.

Does this mean it would fit the fluff for a LR formation to see a Terminator formation in trouble, and say to themselves ' Oh, we're a different formation! Better ignore our transport capacity and either leave them to die or throw ourselves away in a pointless suicidal supporting assault.':)
Seriously, I'm sure SM commanders will take whatever action is needed to keep their Marines alive.
So LRs should be able to pick up other units! And maybe even give a free Regroup at the point of pick-up. After all, those harrassed, blast marker laden Tactical boys are sure going to be please to see the cavalry arrive.

In friendly games? Why not?
In tournament play? Sorry no :(
HGun- and Battl?efrotresses of orks have a similar problem in the GT-list that they can only transport unit sof their own formation.

So why not add same ability to say gunwagons in bliz brigades? Battlewagons whose troops were killed?

Realisticly none of those being able to transport other formations might not make sense but it's so from game desing view.

Of course if you want to increase cost of land raider formation to take that ability into account feel free.
