The Army lists call for bikes to be a formation of 5 bikes. Are these supposed to be 5 bikes on 1 base? 5 bases one bike each? Something else? What size do folks recommend? I've always either based the bikes in 2s or 3s but never 5s. The same question would hold for similar units like rough riders etc. Thanks!

No, no. Five bases with bikes on them. Minimum of two bikes per base.

Yep, what Knave said.

Basically, bikes are classed as infantry and infantry is supposed to be based 3 minis minimum to a base going by the rules, but some folks'll tell you that is a money-making scheme for Grandma Wendy. :) No one should bat an eyelid if you base them 2 per base. Mine are based that way too and it lets you make more bases... ;)

Bikes are Mounted Infantry. The Basing rules in the rulebook say that Mounted Infantry is based 2-3 models per base.

Thanks! However then, the NetEA Army List Compendium text in the Codex Astares section for bikes should be modified to read "5 Units" like it does for the other infantry entries as it currently states "5 bikes" which is very confusing. Especially as I assume the entry for "5 Landspeeders" means 5 models, not 5 stands of 2-3 models.

Man's got a point on fixing the entry.

Strickty speaking with only one Bike per base ypu make it for the opponent more difficult to put the maximum number of units under the barrage template.
Also shooting is model to model not base to base.

I take it that he's taking 1/2 the number of actual models in the formation.

It's 2-4 per base, actually... not that I've ever seen anyone go with 4/base.

I got Space Marine bikes on eBay, and there were 4 glued to each base. Between that purchase and the character pack, I'm able to make 2 squads of 2-per-base bikers, so I'm going to do just that.
