Like a storm raven it's probably best represented as a skimmer with planetfall than as an aircraft? |

I definitely want some of these in Epic scale for my Blood Angels. This is what GW's Storm raven should have looked like in the first place. |

It would be great to get a proxy for this. I doubt to use one as is, but a Thunderbolt proxy would be an excellent use. |

The background text: "A design dating back to the uncertain past of the Great Crusade the Storm Eagle Assault Gunship was smaller than the more numerous Stormbird and Thunderhawk designs in the Space Marine Legion air fleets. It was a dedicated tactical strike unit, very heavily armed for its size but lacking the transport capacity of other gunships, and while the design's origins remain uncertain, clear design similarities to the Stormraven gunships employed by the Blood Angels and the reclusive Grey Knights speak to a common STC origins lost in the bloody sands of time. Certain sources place the principal manufacturing facilities for the Storm Eagle with the primary grade forge worlds of Anvillus IX and ?Tsarus, both of which suffered catastrophic damage during the Horus Heresy, which may have cut short the mass-production of these armored craft, although many Space Marine chapters have managed to keep a sizable core of Storm Eagles operational down the centuries. Perhaps surprisingly, the number of active Storm Eagles in Space Marine service has now begun to substantially increase over the last few decades with Chapters known to have favourable relations with the Priesthood of Mars, leading some observers to believe the Adeptus Mechanicus has restarted large-scale production at an as-yet unknown location." God, that was badly written. Rules: Fast Skimmer, four access points, can transport 20 models (so four bases of infantry, or two bases Terminators or Assault Marines), equipped with one hull-mounted TLHB, one hull-mounted Vengeance launcher (S5 AP4 Heavy 2 Large Blast, 48"), and ceramite plating (what does that do again?) Special rules: power of the machine spirit, deep strike, assault vehicle. Can upgrade TLHB to TLMM or Typhoon launcher, can add four wing-mounted Hellstrike missiles or two wing-mounted TLLCs, and can take a searchlight and extra armour. Fast Attack choice for C:SM, C:DA, C:BT, C:SW. HS choice in Tyrant's Legion, FA for Siege Assault Vanguard. |

There are rumors of a third, similarly sized vehicle as well. A Hawk or Storm Hawk or something. Separate from the raven and eagle. We'll see. |

Ceramite Plating let the vehicle ignore the special rules of Melta-weapons. |

It's nothing extraordinary. The Thunderhawk and Storm Raven have Ceramite Plating too. |

I dunno that it's that rare. Various chapters have maintained a core, and chapters that get along with Mars are getting new ones. Cost will likely control numbers just fine. |

"uncertain past" "origins remain uncertain" "lost in the bloody sands of time" "Certain sources" "which may have" "some observers" "as-yet unknown location." It's all Gdub speak for: yeah, we just created a completely new, non sensical, toy which people will buy in the thousands without actually justifying it's existence. I hate it when they do stuff like this: such a unit has never existed before! Why can't they just be honest, it's...new! |

Nothing new under the suns of the Imperium. GW have written themselves into a corner with the STC-reverence thing - they need to justify the fact that a new model exists given that the Ad-Mech requires any new discoveries to essentially be confirmed as losttech before production. It helps the setting with a sense of decadence and fallen grandeur, but is a real pain when trying to introduce brand new ideas. |
