It's called abstraction :D Epic does it a lot. Plus you yourself said you could take up to 135 Fenrisian Wolves in 40K :D I'm just downsizing that somewhat. Also, going by the codex the marine that becomes the pack Alpha learns to "communicate" or "order them about" with "snarled commands"

Yes. On a Wh40k-sized battlefield. Epic battlefields are much much MUCH bigger.

So something like:
6 Fenrisian Wolf units, and 1 Thunderwolf unit - 250 points

If no Thunderwolf Cavalry formation and a "must have" for a Fenrisian Wolves formation then E&Cs suggestion.

The next question I have for those interested is should the SWs get the land raider variants like the crusader or redeemer?

They appear in the codex - the crusader is particularly favoured by the Space Wolves going by the fluff. But I'd again like to air on the side of caution to avoid stepping on the Black Templars or Blood Angels toes and avoid flooding the list just because we can.

Do the SWs need the variant? I can see the crusader giving them a punch in assault so I guess it would be nice for the assaulty element of the Wolves.

Thoughts?

You want to err on the side of caution.

Crusader, maybe. Redeemer...no. Too hot, too firey.

you could put the crusader in as a transport upgrade for a few formations, but I wouldn't let them be in the Land Raider formation, it's one of the main things about the BT's is that there are alot of LR crusaders available in the list and i'd like to keep it that way if that's all right.

Yes thanks for the lesson in grammar. :-[ was trying to type on taccoms while simultaneously dealing with a compressed air gas cylinder order.

On the "too hot too firey" comment, what - or how - do you mean? They are both optional LRs for Wolves at present as the SWs use them to burn out dug in opposition - they have dubbed them Firewyrms.

Can you give a clearer reason? Thanks Knave.

Spelling, actually. And it's the second time you did it, which is why I thought it worth correcting. Otherwise, I'd have figured it was a typo.

The Redeemer, at least in my view, feels kind of out-of-keeping with the themes of the Space Wolves - ice and bestialnessitude and barbarism and all that stuff. It doesn't seem to fit, you know? The Space Wolves seem to lean a little more toward long-range weaponry, in any case - they used to have Leman Russes, after all, and the Long Fangs are pronounced in their skill at shooting.

The Crusader has some of the same problems too, honestly. But it's less flamey, which makes it a slightly better fit (IMO).

Keep in mind that the Wolves only got access to these two things very recently - as iconic "Space Wolf" things go, they really don't have much of a pedigree.

Plus, they're already gonna have a lot of toys to fit into the list. Are these worth it?

Ok Knave I think we might go with the lesser "evil" :D It can always be changed if it's found to be OTT

Hi,

Do we have a current list for the army, I note the post by BL earlier in the thread. Is there a list later than this that can be used.

Cheers
Aaron

I believe Dobbsy is working on getting an updated release of the Space Wolves put together.

Dobbsy: Would you consider Space Wolves v Thousand Sons instead of World Eaters? Thousand Sons are the historical hated enemies. I've had designs on a SW v TS short supplement for a while, including a couple of scenario design ideas.

Wolves, wolves, wolves: My first thought ran to Zombocom's suggestion earlier. A pack of wolves led by a wolf rider might make an interesting formation. When it comes to the attached Fenrisian wolves and an occasional wolf rider, I'd just factor them into the formation's CC value.

Sons vs. Wolves sounds great to me.

I had contemplated it but I'm also keen to do a 13th crusade thing up with my World Eaters as both chapters seem to reflect the fury of the 41st millenium - hence the idea of calling the supplement Epic:Fury . Could all three work? You have me definitely tempted Neal. I'm interested in the idea if you'd like to discuss it further.

Decisions decisions.
