Can't use the "count as", as I plan to have other Thunderhawks too. And it's not to small at all. Not if some weapons are dropped. (Remember that aircraft are generally modelled smaller.)

No, FW doesn't owe us anything, and we them neither! And I can live without a company that make up their own scaleS and don't care one bit if it works with existing lines.
But sure, I would miss the opportunity to buy their Tau flights, those made for Epic. But that doesn't give me a hell o'lot of Tau vehicles, does it? Half is made for Epic and half is made for their own scaled game Aero~, right? Or am I wrong? Is that line all in Aero~ scale?

Aero scale is the same as epic scale! Why do you think otherwise?

The thunderhawk transporter is a perfect example - it comes with rhinos or a land raider that are identical in size to the epic ones, yet is made for aeronautica.

The scale is identical to the scale used for normal epic vehicles.

Why is it so hard to admit that FW goes their own way?
Their aircraft is a lot bigger than GW's and their Super-heavy tanks are too. And why do they sometimes state a vehicle (flyer) is "Epic scale" but usually "Aeronatica Imperialis"?

I don't care what they have for models for their own game, but when it conflicts with Epic I get a tad bit upset...  :p  And Epic flyers are scaled to small, that's how they are modelled.

It's epic's aircraft that are the wrong scale. FW are to be aplauded for actually making them the correct 1/300 scale rather than the daft tiny scale used by the SG aircraft.

Their models are all exactly 1/5 the size of their 30mm scale 40k models, hence 6mm scale. I've discussed this with several FW people, and it was their guiding principle for all their epic/AI models.

Aero scale IS epic scale, just epic vehicle and infantry scale not the inconsistent SG plane scale. A thunderhawk transporter would look daft at the SG plane scale, as the rhinos would be way smaller than normal rhinos.

"epic scale" means 1/300 or 6mm scale, and that's exactly what the FW planes are.

Sorry, but you're just wrong

Uh? Wrong? Not at all, read again. I didn't say anything about correct 1/300 or 6mm or whatever.
And Epic scale is 8mm anyhow. And how do we know how big a Rhino really is?
Problem is that FW make their own scale of flyers, different from GW's (correct!) one. It's GW's scale, they can't quite literally be wrong in how big (small) they model their range.

I quite agree, been there, done that. Once enough. But FW doing superfluous items confounding the issue is another topic and not scale.

And the transport variant of the T-hawk is to good to let FW bungle it.
Gee, am I grumpy or am I! 8v)

The FW flyers are indeed bigger than the SG ones - with good reason. The SG ones are a different scale to the vehicles and infantry, for no discernable reason.

Other than that they look good with the other models, and are a better size for game purposes whilst the majority of FW flyers look ridiculous on the tabletop

Well, I disagree, and it seems silly to refuse to use models that we have available, given the short supply we have. It's cutting off your nose despite your face.

The transporter model is available, and fits nicely in this list. If you don't like it, don't use it, or proxy or convert your own.

Let's not get started with the scale problem of FW vs SG. We've had that before and I don't want this thread to go there. Make a new thread for that.

I think the man said...

why do the Black Templar army list threads always end up being a discussion about the fact that the scale used by GW when they made alot of there larger metal models was smaller then 6mm and they did this because to make them the true size would have made the costs to great to produce.

anyway i'm going to use the stats that Hena used in his scions of iron list as it's the only place the GW people looked at the THT in a list.

so with that out of the way, has anyone got any other questions about the list?

Yes.

With a fast in and out strike and raid force such as Black Templar and also given their codex...
...why is there ordinary tactical detachments? And no Whirlwinds?

Shouldn't halfway to assault (assault w/o jumppacks) and whirlwinds to soften up suit this chapter better? Especially as their speciality is to exchange their bolt guns for bolt pistols.

I'm not sure I understand the THT rule regarding hit allocation.
Three THT gives 6DC and all fails on a critical?

Black Templars don't have Whirlwinds in 40k. For whatever reason.

Right, dang. I knew I had to find that codex.
But they do have bolt pistols, right?
