In the next Space Marine Codex, it looks pretty certain that 'Codex' Space Marines will gain two new vehicles.

- A type of Land Raider with heavy flamer sponsons (Possibly the same weapon as a Hellhound's main gun)

- A new type of Land Speeder with the ability to transport 5 scouts.

I wonder if there is room for either of these in an Epic army list.

That is all. :)

the ability of a regular pattern landspeeder to be able to carry a single unit of scouts would make sense to match the rumored 40k unit.

Though I don't think they should be able to re-enter the landspeeder after embarking. A landspeeder slowing down long enough for 5 men to enter it again wouldn't seem tactical viable. Though 5 space marines jumping from it doesn't seem like too much of a stretch for them.

This idea is just ridiculous. The land raider and Crusader variant are powerful enough. The idea of that armour 14 monstrosity with 2 inferno cannons is very silly.

Sounds like a bad idea to me (You've introduced a new special rule... and special rules are the enemy of Epic).

Depending on how its rules work, having it as a transport option for Scouts would seem to be the simplest choice.

I don't know that it'll be Inferno Cannons, it might just be 2x heavy flamers. Warseer is now very consistant in saying there will definitely be a variant of the Land Raider with 2x heavy flame sponsons though.

I'll wait and see what is really there (in new Codex) before making anything. If they are there then I might probe if there is need to add newer vehicles into main marine list (including Crusader). Though, I'm pretty sure nothing exists as minis so it's not that likely.

Cool.

Stick them in varient lists, the core air assault list don't need those abilities.

It's only due to poor balance that the codex marine list is an air assault list... it's supposed to provide for both kinds of list (Air & Ground) in a balanced manner.

That Land Raider sounds like the Ares variant:

If so that would be pretty cool, I like the look of the thing.  It would be a fun conversion too in Epic scale.

Land Raider Redeemer is the new LR called. Only Heavy Flamers in the sponsons would be silly, because he can only fire one at the same target. Inferno Cannons would be better because of the range.

And i thought the transporter Land Speeder rumour was proven to be false?

Brimstone from Warseer has confirmed it's real.

Sounds like the Marine version of the Valkyrie to me - certainly a possibility. So you would give the LS "Transport" and specify that it can carry 1x scout. Then you would give the scouts an upgrade of 4x LS for 150 points (stipulating that if chosen they ditch their Rhinos).

As others have said, this would have to be in a variant list. I am sure that L4 (and others) would also advocate a change to the transport rules allowing the scouts and LS to become separate formations once they drop off - which would form two awfully weak formations
:O

I don't know really, this highlights the question of what we feel Net:EA's main job is:

- To modify EA in a balanced manner to reflect the current status of 40k in 6mm.
- To balance EA, and ignore what's been done with 40k.

The reason I make the choice that stark is because this vehicle (Along with the LR Crusader & Burninator) is going to be available for the 'Codex' Marine army list in 40k.

*shrug*

As long as we don't end up with Rogal Dorn tanks in every army list I'm happy. :)

Indeed, I reckon it's worth clarifying before the monthly army reviews begin!

I wouldn't see the review as a way to add more units. Thats varient lists. The reviews should balance the list and ensure in the case of core units they aren't shoe horned into a hole that ruins them for (in this case) other chapter lists.

The scout speeder seems like a good thing to put in the Codex list.

It's always been a little odd that space marine scouts get rhino transports - it's not supported by the 40K rules nor the background. Replacing the scout transports with these new speeders (assuming the rumour is true) seems sensible to me.

The new LR variant might well be something to leave for another list. Space Marines need Crusaders more than this new-fangled inferno variant...
