So, I recently acquired a whole mess of Space Marine models, pretty nice ones at that, painted up as Space Wolves. As befits their style, they have no aircraft in the group I bought (I have a single Thunderhawk, but would rather not take it to be honest). Currently I have 8 Character bases, 6 Tactical Detachments, 2 Devastator Detachments, 10 Land Raiders, 2 Bike Detachments, 2 Land Speeder detachments, 1 Assault Marine detachment, 1 Terminator Detachment and enough Rhinos to mount everything. I, being an AMTL player, also have a fair number of Titans (4 warhounds, 3 warlords, 2 reavers right now), which could be fielded alongside them. At present I'm considering the following: Space Marine Assault Force 3,000 Points Warhound Pack - BTS Cost: 500 Tac Marine Det +Supreme Commander Cost: 400 Land Raiders Cost: 350 Land Raiders Cost: 350 Land Speeders Cost: 200 Land Speeders Cost: 200 Terminators +Chaplain Cost: 400 Devastators +Librarian Cost: 300 Devastators +Librarian Cost: 300 The Warhounds are mostly in there to be something which is a BTS goal other then my Supreme Commander, and could potentially be dropped from the list for something else. After adding everything else to it I found I was 600 points shy, so added the two Dev Dets, but they could also come out for 2 more Tac Dets or something else. Sadly I don't really have anything to represent Hunters or Predators very well (I could use Land Raiders to stand in for Predators if I don't have anything else to use Land Raiders for). Any thoughts and/or suggestions would be welcome. |

This is largely personal preference, but I would: Cut a Dev formation to take Bikes/Librarian. Plan to use the other Dev formation as a base of fire. Drop the Librarian (as the formation is not likely to be in assault) and use the leftover points from the Dev/Bike change above to add Razorbacks. Split the Warhounds if you can spare the points. I know people don't like the BTS/SC combination but I don't find it to be especially vulnerable. If it's an issue for you, move the SC to one of the cheap formations. |

Split the Warhounds. Get air cover. As a minimum two hunters or 2 thunderbolts. Get the 'odd' razorbacks. If you want a different BTS consider a Reaver, sucks vs guard, but good against most else. And I really think the marine SC should come down to 75 points now he doesn't get leader twice. To fund all this I would drop the Devs, replace them with the Warhound singles, leaving 250 points free, drop the librarian as devs that aren't being air inserted rarely need him, 300 points free, get two razors and two hunters leaving you 100 points for either another hunter or some other re jigging to get some scouts or similar. Alternatively drop the devs and the librarian, buy a third warhound, have three singles and get the razorback. Still no air cover though ![]() You can convert rhinos to razors fairly easily incidentally. Bit harder for hunters but not to hard (use some model aircraft missiles?). And Fluff wise I would point out space wolves are anti teleporting, maybe consider meching the terminators (which really needs to cost 650 points, though it seems I am the only person to playtest this lots!)? |

Yes, air support will help. And IMO Land Raiders supported by Titans is a fairly powerful force ... |

I would lose the termies and librarians (-500) and get hunters for both devs and tacs (+225), typhoons for both speeders (+50), razors for both devs (+50), and a bunch of scouts with a razor (+175). That way every formation can shoot at 45cms or more and enemy birds can't just have a banquet with your army. |

Actually what I really hate is that Land Raiders have such odd point cost for non-formations. And I do rather agree, 690 points for mech Terminators seems a tad pricey (Nothing like as bad as the old 725 point cost though!) Hunters -still- feel overpriced to me at 75 points compared to the Hydra at 50, personally. But I seem to be the only one who holds this opinion any more. >.> <.< Anyway, after messing with it for a bit, here's what I came up with: Space Marine Assault Force 3,000 Points Terminators - BTS +4 Land Raiders Cost: 690 Warhound Cost: 275 Warhound Cost: 275 Tac Marine Det +Supreme Commander Cost: 400 Land Raiders +Hunter Cost: 425 Land Speeders Cost: 200 Land Speeders Cost: 200 Devastators +Hunter +2 Land Raiders Cost: 495 It's still 40 points under the limit, so I suppose I could add a razorback somewhere to the list. Eight activations currently. I'm also pondering another list involving fielding no Titans -and- no aircraft/deepstrikers (Frightening isn't it? The idea of trying to use Space Marines to stand on their own without all that added mobility!) |

Get air cover. As a minimum two hunters or 2 thunderbolts. Doh! Missed that one. ![]() |
