I do think that where possible descriptions should be changed to facilitate the transport of different loads, especially for scenario use. GT armylists can put in the restrictions, the unit datafax should be as open as possible. First off thunderhawks and drop pods.

Drop Pods
Make changes described by Neal. In addition change the transport section to:
May transport any marine infantry formation, including dreadnoughts.

Yes I realise this includes bikes and assault marines. So what? If someone has a list that can do that, or wants to in a scenario why shouldn't they? I'm sure the drop pods to do so exist somewhere! Restrictions on use then would be built into the army lists.

ThunderHawk
Change transport to:
May carry 8 units of marine infantry, attack bikes and Dreadnoughts. Terminators and Dreadnoughts take up two spaces each.

Reason - no change really, other than more general and it allows attack bikes!

Next landing craft, I do think these should be able to carry mixed formations of Land Raiders and Rhinos, largely to allow flexibility for the current list (devs if they keep Land Raiders) and any future ones (like the marine armour one).

Transport
May carry 12 units of marine infantry, attack bikes and Dreadnoughts. Terminators and Dreadnoughts take up two spaces each.
In addition it may carry up to 4 vehicles based on the Land Raider chassis. Each may be replaced by 1 1/2 vehicles (rounding down) based on the rhino chassis.

I think that Landing Craft should be renamed 'Stormbirds', to capitalise on the name recognition of the large landing craft from the Horus Heresy series... :)

No. A Stormbird carries 300 Marines (3 Companies), looks more sleeker and is delta shaped.

The books are a little vague on specifics, but they're described as being larger than Thunderhawk Gunships and undertaking much the same duties.

They're basically the same thing, except that Landing Craft have a lame name. :)

We could call 'em Stormhawks if we wanted an evocative name which avoided direct naming conflicts.

EDIT: I don't remember reading the '300' marines figure. I had the impression that they carried about 100, or one company, which is near-on the same as a Landing Craft.

You're right that they were described as being less angular than the Thunderhawk Gunship actually, which is why I suggested 'Stormhawk' too. :)

IIRC they carry 3 Companies thus 300 Marines.

Stormbirds for Spiky Marines! Or have they fluffwise desided not to use them anymore?

Gamewise good solution could be Transport: 12, dreadnoughts and Chosen takes 2 space. 12 because it is Retinue with either Kult Marines or Devastators or 2 Dreds.

Landing Craft has allways been Imperial Landa to me, or Beakie Landa.
