Hey why not be all crazy and go with 10 clean tactical detachments

That'd be really cool to see. Three full Reserve Companies. Though from a tactical perspective (no pun intended), switching out one detachment for two pair of Thunderbolts, or four dispersed Hunters might help against the one thing you wouldn't be able to defend against.

But otherwise nothing but Tacticals? I'm gonna give that a shot sometime.

You've just got to tweak things to you don't have multiple BTS formations!

Other than that, that approach could be really cool.

For the all tactical army I'd go with :-

9 Tacticals.

One upgraded with Supreme Commander, Hunter and 1 razorback and either two other formations with a character or 4 formations with a razor back.

Not that I'd take this to a tournament though!

my thoughts exactly; that and i don't have that many tactical marines. Two battle companies is enough for me.

I'd go with the air assault list, the all warhound army is so 2007  :O

I'd use air assault, or the titan list replacing the Warlord with a Reaver (so much better since the weapon ranges upgrade to 60cm).

Also, could you edit post to expand the third army and add the fourth (as promised in the post) - otherwise we might just suspect you will take either the air-assault or titan armies

I really like List 1 (Valkyries) and List 4 (Walls).

However, I have one question. I thought Termies got bumped to 350. Is that not correct?

Ok, so we have lists #1, #2 and #4. Could you revisit list #3 which is currently at 2250 (and even I might have a chance at beating it in its current state  )

As for the latest variant, I would actually suggest combining it with list #1 (valkyries); or rather I would suggest finding a way to put the strike Cruiser into list#1. I prefer to have some THawks to move the dropped forces around, or to provide a degree of AA cover and ground aupport. This gives you the most flexible approach as you do not have to planetfall; you can arrive airborne if you prefer, or even swap Drop Pods for Rhinos (allowed in the UK) and have a ground-pounder presence. However, with this absolute flexibility you also have built-in fragility as adding strength precludes certain options.

+Hunter 475pts

Landing Craft 350pts

Devs (RHinos) 275pts

9 Tacticals.

One upgraded with Supreme Commander, Hunter and 1 razorback and either two other formations with a character or 4 formations with a razor back.

To avoid the BTS problem and get some AA cover you could use

8 tacticals, 2 with hunters, one of which has a commander, hence=BTS

1 dev det

1 ass det

DO IT MAN!  :))

Hi @all!

Interesting lists you have there!

I myself am not that much of a fan of drop pods. Used them once, and the orbital bombardment was simply useless, despite hitting a whole enemy formation (eldar guardians) - about 12 "to-hit" dice. Well i think i had 3 hits, the bombardment not counting as "sustained" and the target in cover i needed 5+....
considering all that guessing where to shoot it's really not that good imo.

the drop pods are fluffy, but my marines ended up stranded close to the enemy...'cause i was on foot (tacticals) i was too far away to assault, and the shooting power, even with sustained, didn't do much damage (6 shots on 4+ against infantery...).

at the moment i'm toying with another idea: having found out that i can use the thunderhawk to fly in, shoot at an enemy formation, pick up a friendly unit whithin 5cms and fly out at the end of the turn - i'm now thinking about fielding a devastator or tactical formation, maybe with dreadnoughts, as a garrison unit, use the first turn to cover my advance by either being on overwatch or sustained fire, and more or less at the end of the first turn, land with my thunderhawk, pick them up, and use them to air assault in turn 2 (or 3).

I'm going to try that in my next game.

cheers,

my thoughts exactly; that and i don't have that many tactical marines. Two battle companies is enough for me.

I have some spare tactical marines you can have if you like, I'm sure that I could part with a few of the 36 stands in my epic spare bits box! Rhinos too?

I like the warhound list, well to be honest I don't like it that much but I think its the most powerful one. With a little careful planning you could have the tacticals get picked up by the lander on turn 2 (with a land + fire + hoovering sort of action) and used to air assault on turn three.
You do have two BTS formations though, and we all know how explosive that Landing Craft is...

(p.s. Hoovering is not a typo)
