Somewhat. OTOH, why release something that fills a gap when there are random guns to attach to Land Raiders?

Ironically air superiority should be key - otherwise they could never be an independent force. Thats a bit of 40k sillyness for them not to have fighters.

With a spacecraft to erase enemy airports from existence i see no problem here.

Which assumes space superiority

I love these discussions. It always amuses me when people try to insert realism into a universe where charging across a battlefield to hit someone with a melee weapon, is a viable tactic.

Just because all the kids are doing it doesn't make it a good idea. Also, Space Marines are not meant to be truly independant. They are equipped for planetary assaults, but not to hold planets. That's why the IN got their Spaceships during the 2nd founding.

formations of tacticals, backed up with dreadnaughts, tanks and other specialists

mechanise to taste and to role.

Drop podding infantry, wings of landraiders, armoured tips to a steel spearhead.

bikes and jumppackers circling, intervening on behalf of the tacticals or running down broken enemy.

Thunderhawks dropping more men off in key areas, flanked by landspeeders suppressing the foe.

Outside of specialist (non-codex) chapters, a fighting stlye equivilent to a marshal art. As precise as the dance of the Eldar, but less delicate and more aggresive.
