To be honest, if we did want to go for MW status, now really would be the best time to do it, what with the netEA list compendium making the process a whole lot easier.

Frankly, I'm surprise GW hasn't given the 40k version of the vindicator some form of upgrade, given their propensity for favoring the SMs.

You could call the gun "Seigebreaker Demolisher" and write about how it uses super-duper double-secret rainbow shells infused with the blood of a trillion martyrs and wrapped in the emperor's holy toilet paper. The best part is, they're green.

I'm generally against the MW creep, but SMs would be better off, I think, if they had access to more than one (not counting titans). Also, it would go along way towards justifying the very existance of the unit (in general, including in the background).

They gave it a special rule that lets it drive through cover more efficently than other vehicles, or something.

I play them with Walker at 25cm, I haven't gotten a chance to use it yet though.

E&C, have you ever tried the Demolisher as something like this:

Code Sample:

Demolisher    30cm   AP3+    Macro-Weapon
      and    30cm   AT4+    -

Or perhaps just 15cm MW4+, with a MW FF.

I'd rather keep the cannon as is and balance it through points, lots of units use Demolisher Cannons and that is what the Vindicator is armed with.

I maintain that the following would probably be okay:

Quote:

Vindicator stat changes:
Speed 25cm
Walker

Unit cost changes:
50pts as an upgrade
200pts as a formation

With Vindicators available as a 200pt formation, most people are still going to plump for Bikes or Land Speeders first, but at least they'll be vaguely attractive. At 250/275pts, and 75pts as an upgrade, nobody is ever going to take them.

I'd say the whole 25cm speed, Walker, 50 points thing makes it competitive, with 225 for a formation.

That sounds okay to me, too. Vindies need a speed increase.

I'd maintain that 275/75 with Walker added would work.

That's the kind of price costs that'd only ever be selected by people who aren't in the least bit interested in winning their games.

That's my opinion, and also I blieve the majority opinion here on the board.

====

4x Vindicators for 275pts, or 5 Land Speeders for 200pts? Or 5 bike units for 200pts?

No contest; as a unit with one short ranged shot (meaning it must typically Double to get a shot in) it's simply greatly overpriced at 275/75.

Heck, compare it to Predators, 4 for 275pts. I'd rather take Predator Destructors than Vindicators at that points cost, for the extra overland speed, number of shots, and increased range, and I think Predator Destructors are still sub-standard (should be FF3+ instead of 4+).

Vindicators are just rubbish at 275/75.

EpicUK dropped the formation cost to 250pts, and the upgrade to 50pts, and increased the speed to 25cm... and they're still not taken.

200pts for a formation and they'd get spammed!

How terrifying.

I still think spammed bikes or Land Speeders would be more powerful / versatile, as both are respectable Engagement formations which have (slightly) greater numbers and greatly increased speed.

But I could compromise to 225pts... 250pts has seen I think nobody take a formation of them to an EpicUK tournament to date?
