Note that Helios Land Raiders have half the tranport capacity of a normal Land Raider, lack the heavy bolter, and that their weaponry will rarely have the chance to all fire at once.

I use Helii as a 25 point upgrade to a normal Land Raider.

Well, it is themed around an 'armoured column', which is why I suggested them (mobile armoured fire support that survives a little longer than whirlwinds!).

The +25 I suggested was per vehicle, putting a formation of 4 at 475 by your costings. Whether you make them as an upgrade or even an exchange of one or two per LR fomation, or allow complete LR fomations of them, may depend on how they fit into the theme.

BTW I like the Prometheus - a qeustion, seeing as I have not seen any models / conversions - are the heavy bolters in quad mounts replacing lascannons? If so, maybe 2 x AP3+ and keep the FF +1 attack might be better, otherwise you are giving a +100 point character a 4+ RA save, and thick rear armour, for only +75 (slightly less than the cost of a teleporting terminator, to be sure, but the termiknators mobility is limited once they are on the ground in comparison!).  Presumably the prometheus, as a specific unit, does not count as having the space marine commander CC upgrade (ie macro weapon +1 CC attack)?

More thoughts, after my next caffeine jolt.

Andrew

E+C, why would they lack the chance to fire all weapons at once? Sure, if you stand off, that is true, but there is nothing stopping you firing the barrage as an assault gun, just not using 'indirect fire' - in which case they get a better gerneral purpose weapon than the AP4+ heavy bolters, with the same base range as the lascannons.

I was not even considering them as having a transport capacity (they have to store spare ammo and loading servitors somewhere!).

Try using them and you'll see what I mean... IMHO the Helios will more often than not find a lack of promising targets, either because they're firing at an AV formation, or an Infantry formation, or at too long a range for the Lascannons, etc.

Basically you're talking almost 500 points tied up in four tank hulls... they're very vulnerable.

It's official that the Helios has a transport capacity...

I know that I've used my whirlwinds as offensive tanks when my opponent haven't moved within their range. I have no question that 4BP barrage would be better than 4 AP4+ with 15cm shorter range.

Aye but they can no longer carry terminators, thus the only marine formation they can even begin to afford is Devestators...

Land Raider Prometheus
Type/ Speed/ Armour/ CC/ FF
Armoured Vehicle/ 25cm/ 4+/ 6+/ 3+
Weapon/ / Range/ Firepower/ Notes
4 x Twin Heavy Bolter/ 30cm/ AP4+
Pintle-Mounted Storm Bolters/ (15cm)/ small arms/ Extra Attacks +1
Notes: Reinforced Armour, Thick Rear Armour, Supreme Commander, Invulnerable Save

Prometheus/ Add one Land Raider Prometheus. Only one supreme commander may be taken/ 175 points

Only ?the Land Raider det can take this.

Why make the Prometheus Supreme Commander?
It's a very long time since I read the fluff, but I thought the Prometheues was available to SM Command squads. With that in mind, why not have it as an upgrade to LR formations, replacing one LR, +25 points, Leader.

Or if it has to be Supreme Commander, why not give it a transported Termi stand which is the actual Supreme Commander?

regards,
Reaver
