Call it "Space Marine Tank Hunter Detachment" 4 devastator units with 2 multi-meltas instead of the 2 missile launchers on each stand.

Or let the player choose which stand he want to us ein his devastator detachemend. Regular "Fire Support Devastators" (theones wit 2 missile launchers) or "AntiTank Devastators" (the one with 2 multi-meltas) or a mix of the two.

I guess Primarch or L4 didn't see that.  'Support Squad' was a SM1 troop type, efectively a Tactical stand.  Tactical stands then had a meltagun instead of a heavy weapon.

But tactical squats aren't allowed to have multi-meltas. Only meltaguns.
But some time ago i have worked out stats for tatcical stands without missile launcher:

Tactical stand with plasmagun:
Move 15cm armour 4+ CC4+ FF4+
plasmagun 15cm ap5+/at5+

Tactical stand with flamer:
Move 15cm armour 4+ CC4+ FF4+
flamer 15cm (small arms) Extra Attack +1
or an other idea for flamer:
Move 15cm armour 4+ CC4+ FF3+
flamer 15cm(small arms)

Tactical stand with meltagun:
Move 15cm armour 4+ CC4+ FF4+
meltagun 15cm (small arms) MacroWeapon

Actually, Tac squads are allowed a multimelta as their heavy weapon in 40k v4.  It's just very rarely taken, as there are more versatile choices for the points.

I think it'd be better as a 'new' troop stand type than having a different weapon fit.  either way, you'd need some new heavy weapon sculpts, but the precedent is that different weapon = different troop formation.

I still think it makes a good option for an alternative to the tactical formation. Ie, works differently, but still is formed from tactical units.

I'm not disagreeing with the idea, but I just think it should have a different unit name.  Let's face it, the difference between half of all Devastator Marines and 7 of 10 Tactical Marines is what squad insignia they have on the shoulder.  (ie, basic marine with bolter)
Since they have a different use on the field of battle (MW firefight=ouch), I think they should have a different unit name.

You would have to do it as a distinct formation, as how to differentiate from regular stands. So in the salamanders list i'm fiddling with (using PG's excellently painted army owned now by my brother) all tac stands would have multi meltas (or all devs, not sure which yet).

Yeah, that's what bugs me.  We'd need a new HW Marine model, and getting new models out of SG seems to be problematic :/

They could be easily build if you want to sacrifice some attack bike multi-meltas.

Point taken.  It's always struck me as too fiddly to convert at that scale, though that just be my natural laziness speaking.

It isnt too hard.
Chop off the ammunition clip on top of the missile launcher, file or cut the front and back of it flat and attach the multi-melta barrels at the front. Et voil?!

Well, my current thinking is for this 'minor' suggestion should be to go to FOM ASAP, and let people experiment with conversions. If it's tremendously successful, then I'm sure FW could do one(15-30 for ?10?) ! I mean, they have the moulds for Multi-part Space Marines in Epic!

That said, we shouldn't be put off from a good idea from lack of a model.
