Hi all,
Finally got moved in to Brisbane and actually met up with CAL, it must be a small world because we now live less than 100m appart thanx army!
Had a game last wednesday, marines Vs blood angels. I can now say that these tanks are a bit scary the first time they open up on a detachment.. Fortunately my luck held out and I manages a lot of saves. Even still I would argue in favour of a small price increase for these suckers since a MRL is a more threatening than a HB.
Thanks for the game Cal!

Yep. First appeared in the first softcover Imperial Armour update, then in the hardcover Imperial Armour 2. | Hi!
Whats the difference between this and a whirlwind?
The chassis?

Hi Primarch
It looses the ability to carry troops as a result of the addidtion of the Whirlwind and it no langer has the HB as the targeting aray is in its place. Whirlwinds dont usually survice contact with a 5+. This thing is 4+ RA, TRA. It can kill infantry and vehicles in the one hit. We will see how it goes this week.
Cheers CAL

Cheers CAL | Hi!
Cool concept.
I wonder if SM would just use these instead of the whirlwind.

Mate
All my Marines are know Blood Ravens. I am working on an entire Chapter at the moment. 3rd company are complete, with most of 1st on the board. I have a photo bucket with more picks of them all. I am thinking of doing some Templars as well, once the list is revised.

I have been using the Helios now for five months and find them to be very effective unit. They excell against mixed Inf and Armour formations with their ability to hammer Inf with the barrage and then the eight AT shots realy do put the nail in the coffin. Against Titans they are of particular use, the BP removing shields so that the AT shots can have an effect on the Titan. No longer do Marines have to combine formations to take on titans. Lately I have been fielding them at 475 points in line with the 375 proposed change to LR formation, 25 points seems reasonable for the purchase of the Whirlwind. They will remain a front line choice of mine in any size game.

I would support moves towards making this unit 'official' in the next round of revisions.
It exists in the background, fills a well-defined role, and best of all it's rather cool!
As CAL suggests, a 25pt upgrade cost to add a Helios launcher to a Land Raider seems a good starting point.

Great to see some work being done on these as I intend one of my SM chapters to be Red Scorpions.
Love the pics. They look great!

I love this mini. I think it looks great and it fits the role of "Close Support" in my mind very well.

About a year ago there was discussion over on the old board about trying to find a TK weapon for the Space Marines. While my initial take on the LR Helios would be along the lines of what you are talking about, I proposed a tweek to the missiles and how they are fired to make a TK weapon platform for the Space Marines. The discussion starts with my post, #11, on this page:
Space Marines TK p.2
Check out my post, #1, on this page for cleaned up stats and some discussion points:
Space Marines TK p.3
Personally, I don't care which way we would want to take the Helios. Just food for thought....

Blag: IMHO Those stats would sound good for the Land Raider 'Meteor' that was discussed in those threads you posted, or the like.
However, in the background & the 40k rules, the Helios launcher is very definitely 'just' a Whirlwhind launcher, with no extra abilities that would grant it MW or TK ability. So the LR Helios should try and stick as close to the cannon as possible IMHO, with an added Whirlwind launcher (BP1) & reduced transport capacity, that's all the Helios should be IMHO.
