Six, actually - you wanted even numbers for your squads every time ;)

I stand corrected  :yay:

Actually the ideal layout would be:

Tactical Combat Squad Alpha:
CC3+ FF4+
Plasma gun 15cm AP5+/AT5+

Tactical Combat Squad Beta:
CC4+ FF4+
Missile Launcher 45cm AP5+/AT6+

Should actually be Flamer on Alpha (I think they were called Assault and Heavy Weapon demi-squads somewhere). FF3+ maybe?

The 'Sergeant' squad would have a Special Weapon in 40k, such as a Flamer, Plasma Gun or Meltagun.

Plasmagun is probably the most common.

Standard displays (Tactical Squad box, every starter set ever) says flamer is most common.

Not in turneys :D

But with a Flamer it would be just like the Tactical stand without the Missile Launcher but with Ignore Cover to the basic FF attack.
A Melta would give Macro-weapon to the basic FF-attack.

Note that both AREN'T shooting attacks.

Actually, melta and flamers are very viable choices in tourneys now, especially considering cost differences and preponderance of cover.

But we're getting WAY off track

As lovely and pretty as those stats are, this is all nonsense :)

Something as basic as the stats of tactical marines isn't going to change, and the idea of factoring in squad sergeants is daft.

Some level of abstraction is essential in epic, lest we return to the dark days of 1st edition:

"My Sergeant fires his bolt pistol..."

*Shudder*

Oh, no doubt, Zombocom and I said so. I was just playing along with BlackLegion's suggestion.

My Tactical Detachments are 6 stands of 4 Tactical Marines and one Sergeant.
My Devastator Detachments are 4 stands of 3 Tactical Marines and two Heavy Weapons.

I abstract mine a lot more, to represent effectiveness, rather than WYSIWYG. I do the same with Imperial Guard. All my IG 'Infantry Units' have a Heavy Weapon. They only get one shot in two, to represent their poorness of quality.

It was also done to allow the eyeballing by an opponent (and myself) to be easier. If a Dev and Tac squad are intermingled, it's really easy to know which is which.

I'm old school. So, my Marines are based the old way: no ML for Tactical stands and one ML for each Devastator stand. Although, now that I think about it, it might have done two MLs for my E40k Devastator stands. I didn't feel like rebasing my Tacticals to have one ML.

Mine are whatever I had at the time and as I have the bulk of my force from Space Marine it's generally 1 of 4 variants for tacticals (Each stand has 1 ML or 1 Sergeant or Both or Neither) and 1 of 2 for devastators (Each stand has 2 ML or 2 ML and 1 Sergeant).

Easy enough to differentiate as there are no overlapping stand configurations.

I seem to recall something called 'support' squads from 1st edition.

What are those meant to be then??

5 marines with bolter and 1 melta gun (fired seperately to the bolters).

Back on topic-
Since there are no Sgt model on the marine frame I just did them as statted, one missile 4 bolter.

I should dearly love to model some new marine sprues to compliment the existing battleforce...

one with 2 posed sgts, a special weapon, an assault sgt
one with 4x different heavy weapons.

I MAY have a look at 3d-modelising these on my holiday break...
