It appears Markco, you and I are bumbling incompetents, that can only win with SMs if we bring on a Titan or 2 ! Higher HQ should have us relieved from command ! :p :D   Oh the shame of it all ...

Geez tneva I feel sorry to you, I didn't realise you AUTOMATICALLY lost every time the enemy bought a titan along ?:p ?:;):

Opponent having invincible unit would go long way to prevent winning. Heck that's what victory inhibitator titans do. As long as they stay alive it's virtually impossible for opponent to win as it requires pulling either and they shall not pass and/or defend the flag objectives which aren't exactly most likely objectives to be passed.

???

A titan is by no means 'invincible', even if you don't take your own titan. It can just be hard to kill. Big difference.

Also a titan can only be in one place at a time - it can't defend all the objectives like you say it can. Place your objectives sensibly so it can only defend one of its own objectives. ?If it chooses the blitz then it shouldn't be defending take and holds. Plus even if you can't get 2 objectives a draw goes to victory points - so use your entire army to concentrate against all enemy forces bar the titan - which is holding its own blitz apparently ?( I would almost never use a main battle titan in this way...)

Really I think you are creating a problem where there isn't one. I haven't seen an experienced marine player complain about the invincibility of titans in the GT game - except against pure war machine armies (OGBM and AMTL).

Get smart, dodge the titan, hit hard and fast against everything else and grab every objective (except the one the slow old titan is sitting on) in the last turn.

a) Titan needed to defeat titan is theme recurring in this thread and what I'm disagreeing with.
b) He only needs to control his own bliz. Then rest of army needs only to control one of opponents side take and hold and he can't win(can't kill titan=can't archieve bliz, can't archieve BTS. Rest of army controls one take and hold=can't archieve defend the flag nor and they shall not pass).

So there's no NEED for controlling all as it's pretty easy to ensure you can atleast contest one of the enemy take and hold objectives. Therefore, victory impossible if you can't take titan out. This has become in fact de facto use for titans around here as it FORCES you to take that titan out.

Also note I'm NOT saying you can't defeat titan without titan of your own but arquing against that concept which is coming constantly up in this thread. So get your facts up.

Oh and get all the objectives in last turn: Isn't that easy when you have entire opponents army bearing on single objective in the last turn, thus preventing victory.

So the titan player is just trying to stop the enemy winning - how does he win himself if he is using up to a third of his points just to guard a blitz?

Moreover, the titan is effectively out of action (up to a third of the armies points total!!) because it is guarding its blitz (fine it can have it...) Therefore the remaining 66% of the titan users army has to win against 100% of the enemy army, just to contest one objective and draw the intial objective count, hence going to a points count (which is dependant on the result of the battle just fought at odds 3-2 against the titan player)... looks like a recipe for disaster for the titan player to me.

Sorry I still just don't see why you have a problem in the standard GT setup.

Titans "just happen" to be armed with long range weapons...

So those titan points are spent on doing what titan does best anyway. Blowing pieces of enemy army apart. IN ADDITION he practically ensures enemy can't win without blowing the titan. It doesn't reduce it's effect. On the contrary it increases since you get more of result from same titan...

So you do what titan does anyway and add into mix prevention of 2 objectives for enemy. 2 objectives that just happen to be among the 3 easiest and most likely objectives to be archieved...

(and btw. I don't have problems with GT scenario. I'm arquing against concept of titans needing titans to be destroyed! Get your facts right for a change!)

can someone summarise then?!

in my [limited] experience, you don't need a titan to beat a tian, or to win a game, but the whole point of epic, for me, is the chance to field one - and i have always had one (apart from when i tried Eldar in SM2, i didn't get on too well with that army so didn't bother buying one!).

tneva82 - if your regular tactics are that defensive-  just not to lose by sticking a titan on the blitz and grabbing one opponents objective then I am glad that I'm not in your gaming group! though if this is your regular plan then I think it would be quite easy to counteract

Hi all

I destroyed a set of warhound this evening in a 5k game using a landing craft, terminator det + CC dreads and a LR det in a landing action. They then went on to secure two objectives to help win the game. I guess you just need to bring the right units to the party.

Cheers

O.K. ... you can kill Titans without Titans ... it's just harder ... I think we all agree ... I've killed a CI with Ork Heavy Boyz (SM1) ... but I've always killed a Titan with a Titan ... does not mean I couldn't have otherwise. ?But Like I said most of our games don't include Titans ... but some do and when we decide to use Titans ... we all took 1 or 2 within the TBL rules ... ?Do what works for you ! :;): But as a former ground commander, if given the option of getting heavy support ... I'll take it ! ?And BTW ... all my Titans have ranged weapons only. ?As I said, we see'm as Land BBs/BCs/CAs/DDs ... ? ? ?:;):
