As this pred isn't that hot (with the current fix being higher FF and stepping on the vindicators toes), might the alternative to give it the long autocannon as on the Hydra and so 60cm AP5+/AT6+. I can't actually check the models currently as my marines are impounded on pain of doing more job hunting.

That doesn't mesh with its weapons in 40k.

I'd go with making the base price of the formation cheaper, then make the player pay xx (10?) pts to upgrade their Autocannon Pred to be the Lascannon variant.

Keep it as they are, make them plain cheaper. No fixing on weapons.

Actually thinking on it I have a neat idea for the mark 1 in the iron handish list :)

I'm really not in favour of having lots of different patterns of each vehicle class (Which you seem to like TRC), as it'll end up very confusing.

I'd really rather we collectively found a way to fix the first vehicle, rather than everyone heading off in their own direction proclaiming they've found the best road.

I suspect that only I will actually use any varient rules for the 1st ed pred :) Marine wise I can't really see much difference between each editions models. ...But the Imperial Guard just cry out to be as confusing overall as the WWII array of tanks!

However I wouldn't want to mix different rules for similar models in the same list.

when you have billions (or possibly trillions) of troops from millions of different worlds scattered across the universe, which are all corralled into a combined fighting force its very easy to have that much variation.

But with the space marines they are very strictly monitored and adhere closely to the Codex Astartes. Even the chapters that do deviate a bit from Codex still use the same weapon specs, just a slightly different weapon mount on their vehicles. (The blood angel predator comes to mind, with its twin linked assault cannons). As well, they all (except for a possible one or two chapters) use the same "Mark" of vehicle.

This may be rather stupid question, but since when do hydra autocannon have range 60cm?

In 40k Hydras have a long autocannon which has extra range, I assume TRC was referring to that.

In Epic teh Hydra autocanon has 60cm range. It loses 15cm range because it has a 360 degree flak mount.

Yeah, a 'longbarrelled autocannon' in 40k actually has a 72" range, vice the 48" range of a standard, but the AA rules add 12" to the measured range of a aircraft, giving an effective range of 60".

Which is an odd argument... let's see if I've got this straight: Hydra have longer ranged autocannon in 40K but they don't in Epic so Predators should have a longer range in Epic even though they don't in 40K?

Predators should simply have a 5+RA save. It puts them squarely as a medium tank they should be and stops them from evaporating when armoured companies come under MW fire. They're about the right number of points in relation to everything else, and they have the right armament. The only thing that's odd about them is they're somewhat more fragile than they should be. But if anyone mentions giving them that everyone jumps up and down shouting about MW-creep, and as a consequence people are looking at making them either so pathetically cheap that people would actually take them or making up new weapons to make them better.

I was thinking solely about the 1st ed pred actually :) The arguement is nothing to do with Hydra. Its just the 1st ed model has a very long barrel, just like a long barrelled auto cannon.

I'm against this too. The Autocannon was everytime an Autocannon and nothing else.
