This idea came from Squared about Orbital Support. I like it and it seems to fill a void. What do you think?

CAL

On another note:  Many comments have been made about the inability of SMs to take on large WEs, particularly large armies of them.  Many ideas have been thrown around.  Anyways here's a new one, or at least one I have not seen before:

Change the states of the Battlebarge to:

Orbital Bombardment, 8BP, MW
Pin Point Attack, 3BP, MW (TK(1)?)

and the Stike Cruiser to:

Orbital Bombardment, 3BP, MW
Pin Point Attack, 1(2?)BP, MW (TK(1)?)

The bombardment cannons on the SM ships are designed specifically for use against ground targets.  Of every army in Epic the SMs are the ones most tied to their ships, orbital support should be a pretty common sight and I think that this would help, also I think that the current price of the SM ships is sufficient for the above stats.

I like it, too. Orbital support should be able to deal with WEs.

Sounds good. But it shouldn't be a Pin Point Attack. Bombardment Cannons are not so scalpel like as lances.

Actually this is the part that confuses me.  According to the SM background lances are not available to them because they are useless in a planetary assult.  Odd how for everyone else, the IN included, the lances are arguably the most useful against targets on the ground.  Bombardment cannons are the only weapon in BFG specifically designed to attack planets, why wouldn't they have better targeting software and better coordination with ground units?  Also what is so scalpel like about an orbital bombardment templet that can only be targeted against WE?

Also these rules are self limiting, the pinpoint attack can only be directed against war engines and cannot destroy anything on it's own unless it is something that gets caught under the templet but only has 1 hit, like an infantry unit.

Oh, btw a note should be added that the pin point attack uses the orbital bombardment templet.

What do you guys think about the alternate stats, ie. TK(1) and dropping the SC to 1 BP?

Well, Bombardment values are figured at 1BP for each 2 Weapons Battery firepower, and 1 BP per Bombardment Cannon.

I'd rather see the SC at 2BP, with some kind of PPA.  A basic 'rock' hitting the ground at Mach 7 is still very nearly a nuclear blast, so I really like the idea.  It's just unfortunate that JJ will probably shoot this idea down hard.
