Salut ? tous,

This is my army list (3000 points) for the tournament of Lyon. It is based on the v4.1.

2 Phalanxes - 2 x 225 points

1 Phalanx + 1 unit of Pariahs + 2 units of Immortals - 345 points

1 Phalanx ?+ 1 unit of Pariahs + 1 unit of Immortals - 305 points

1 Eques + 1 Necron Lord - 375 points

4 Monoliths each one escorted by 1 Obelisk - 4 x 125 points

1 Pylon - 200 points

1 Abattoir - 750 points

1 ?Tomb Complex - 75 points

3000 points.

I hope to have a lot of comments about the Necron list after that week-end.

I assume you mean 1 Phalanx + 1 stand of Pariahs + 1 stand of Immortals for the fourth Phalanx entry?  Otherwise, you're 40 points over.

The Abbatoir seems like kind of a point sink, you could go crazy with Obelisks if you dropped it, but that's just my opinion.

Oups! Damned copy/past function!

You're right the fourth Phalanx has only one stand of Immortals. I'll edit my post.

About the Abattoir, I don't understand what you mean...

I know that this kind of war engine is not a very good option : too easy to break and very difficult to launch an assault with but my "credo" is : "no epic army without a big war engine!".

Yeah, that was my point:  too easy to break and very difficult to launch an assault.

If you dropped the Abbatoir, you could add another Pylon, another Eques formation and more Obelisks for your Monoliths with the 750 points freed up.

If that's your credo, though, by all means, go for it!

Amen.

Please, somebody do something for the Abattoir! ?:O

Other than that, I rather like your list, Fran?ois. If you can, I'd advise you to put Pariahs in your two basic Phalanxes instead of Immortals in the other ones.

Yep. Or I could field a C'tan (supreme commander), a pylon and another phalanx. I don't want to buy more Obelisks : I tried a Monolith formation with two of them but it is as easy to break as the same formation with one Obelisk (you just need a kill to break a 3 units formation). And I do not mind if my Monolith formations are broken because they will phase out and then teleport during the following turn.

I will use the Abattoir during the tournament because of my credo AND because it's a way to play a soft Necron army (a lot of my opponents do think that Monoliths are cheesy).

Ah! You're right but this is my second "credo" : "use as many cool miniatures as you can"! And I do love my Immortals from DarkRealm Miniatures! ?

Edit : Just a question about Pylons... Can they "Phase Out"? I think they can't (it is said that, except C'tans, Necron war engines can't phase out) but it is not noted in its stats (the "can't phase out" rule is noted for the Abattoir or the Orb).

Heh, I never even noticed that.  I'd say the Pylon can't phase out, for the reasons you specified, and the notes in the Abbatoir and AEonic Orb are redundant reminders.

You are correct, no WE phasing (except C'tan).

I like your list.  I would drop the Abattoir as well, but not for the reasons posted above.  You definitely should have a Supreme Commander in a 3000 point list - too many things can go wrong too quickly not to have one.

I agree. During my training games for the tournament, too many assaults failed because I could not go on activating a second formation... :(

Dura lex sed lex. And my first credo is a real law for me...

This is my general strategy.

I'll deploy my abattoir and the two standard Phalanxes in garnison. If the battlefield allow it (lines of sight), I will deploy my Pylon next to the Tomb Complex.

Alone, the Pylon is not very effective but it has a great psychologic impact on the opponent who will think twice before launching an aerial assault. In addition, by deploying it at the beginning of the game and far from the enemy, I minimize the risks of demoralisation. In addition, I'll only have to move a simple phalanx by the Tomb Complex portal in order to defend my base.

I usualy don't teleport any formation during the first turn. The garnisons will prevent the enemy to concentrate his fire against the abattoir (and break it). In addition they will be in the way of his troops.

I'll make my teleportations during the second turns where the enemy troops are scattered and more vulnerable. My main goals will obviously be the enemy base and the other objectives.

The assault scenario is quite simple : teleportation of two or three monoliths, activation of a Phalanx or an Eques to move and fire against the target and then activation of another phalanx to launch the assault (with the support of the first formation and of the two or three monoliths).

I must take time to write a report of my games into English (gasp!) but we can begin with a picture of my army :

DRM infantery, scratchbuilt Monoliths, Obelisks and Pyl?n. A 40k Tomb Spyder as Abattoir.

Merci'

I believe the object on the right is his Pylon.  And yes, close ups would be very nice.

Ok, this is a sum up of my first game. Note that we used the standard tournament scenario during the whole week-end.

11/11/2006 - 10h00 AM
My first game against Patrick Maravat and his Imperial Guard (1 Leman Russ company, 1 Shadowsword Company + infantry support, HQ company, some artillery and infantry).
We play on an Orkish battlefield with hills and a fortified Ork village at the center (fortifications are impassable for vehicles - bad for him good for me ?:) ).

Game begins badly for me as my Pylon is already broken after teleportation - double 1 ? ). Hopefully this is the only bad roll of the day. But the Pylon will stay broken all the game because of the IG shell fire.
Patrick must walk round the Ork village and he divides his forces : the Leman Russ company by the left, the HQ company by the right. Garrisons are in the village and in the center of his deployment zone we can find his artillery and shadowsword company.
I avoid the Leman Russ ('cause of their good save) and I begin by destroying the shadowsword company+artillery (thanks to a massive Monoliths attack, see the first picture above), then the HQ company (Abattoir supported by a Monolith and a Phalanx) and I finish with the garrisons in the village. Easy work as I save all the hits inflicted by Patrick against my Monoliths.
At the end of the game, only the Leman Russ survived.

Victory.

My comments : the army worked very well. Pylon was always broken but Patrick didn't have any aerial units, he was only afraid of its firepower... So he wasted several shots on this unit.
While my Monoliths were teleporting around the isolated IG formations, the Abattoir managed to move forward without suffering too many shots and I managed to assault the HQ formation with him.
Note that I've teleported 3 monoliths against my main target (shadowswords defending the base) and 1 against the HQ Company (in order to support the Abattoir). So Patrick had to choose what threat was the most important. He had too many different targets and he could not react as quick as it was necessary.
Assaults were easy as Monoliths gained a lot of attacks agains the big infantry units. In addition Imperial Guards have bad saves and I had always a big bonus (+1 per IG unit destroyed, about +6 to +8 each time) at the end of the fight for resolving the assault.
