Post subject:  Classification of tomb spyders

Hi,

since i did not want to spam the "nailing it down" thread, i opened a new topic for a question regarding the tomb spyders:

Why are they classified as AVs and not LVs?
The question arouse because:

- neither in the fluff nor in the 40 k rules they are invulnerable to AP fire like heavy bolters.

- it seems a bit odd that 10 necrons get cover marching next to a tomp spyder.

- the angry robot a accidently use as my prviate tomb spyders proxy is faaar smaller than most other AVs, especially compared to Jon's Pyramid I use accidently as Monolith proxy.

- Spyders are well worth their points, so i see no balancing reasons that force their classification as AVs.

What did i overlook?

Edit: Merry Christmas!   :)

I agree.

The cover issue leads to weird situations and despite Monoliths having "living metal", there should be greater difference between a little spider and a big Monolith (both are AV).

It's what they used to translate from 40k.

LV are all Vehicles that are "open topped" in 40k

Anything that was a "Monstrous Creature" in 40k is either a AV, or WE.

It's a generic tranfer protocol.

Not quite correct.

The Imperial Guard Griffon is open topped but not a LV.

As i`m not at home i don`t have access to Codex Necrons to uplook the Tomb Spyders stats.

I didn't say that all Open topped are turned into LV, just that all the LV I saw were Open Topped in 40k :)

Space Marine Attack Bikes and Land Speeders aren't Open Topped.
Eldar Vypers aren't too iirc.

Attack bikes are infantry mounted on bikes. Land Speeders have always had the disclaimer that they are not *considered* open topped because the crew wear power armor. Vypers are indeed open topped.

Tomb Spyders most closely fit the attack bike mold, in terms of 40K classification (No AV), size, and stats. Therefore I'd keep them LV.

Have now the Tomb Spyder 40k stats. It has only 2 Wounds but the Toughness is rather exceptional (same as a Carnifex).
So AV fits but with a relatively poor Save.
