ok guys I have worked on my photo-fu.

I hit the little buggers with black wash and improved the lighting.  I hope the new photos provided above do them more justice.  Please let me know.

I also have a picture with the Japanese corporate troopers next to a DRM light infantry. for comparison

I have used the base provided by GZG to neutralize the base hieght difference.  I think they work well togethor.

Thanks

Aslo for note the some of the ESU infantry are modeled with camo cloaks.  Nice for scouts.

Enjoy

Looks great !  Good idea giving them a black wash.   G/W, F/W, DRM, GZG and E/W are prety much compatible ...

Here are a few pictures of the NSL infantry and power armour. Sorry about the blurriness - three cups of coffee, bad lighting and no tripod does that to me.

Very slowly?

The "blue" and "red" infantry I primed white and carefully painted the base colors on. Polly-S Khaki uniforms, chaos black weapons and visors and bronzed flesh chins. Then I gave the uniforms a thin orc flesh ink wash. The top half of the visors were painted a dark grey and then a very light grey edge added. The weapons were very lightly dry brushed with chainmail. The shoulder pads were picked out in a bright color so each platoon is easily identified on the table. Those two platoons took an age to paint.

The "white" and "green" platoons in the back of the picture were painted to a much lower standard. They were primed black with an airbrush, and the uniform details picked out with Ral Partha Olive, and the visor edges hit with elf grey.

The PA platoon was painted almost identically to the "white" and "green" platoons - I deliberately tried to give them a very flat finish. I didn't dry brush the weapons nor did I try to highlight the armour. They weren't very fast though as I tried to be quite careful when picking out the armour panels. I probably could have dry brushed them, but I really don't like the grainy effect you get from dry brushing flat areas.

It's sort of funny - these have been in storage for so long I forgot what they looked like! Thanks for starting this thread peeps!

Thanks for the good stuff, CC and TCh. Now I have to go buy some more stuff, and I'm out of money!

An alternative to ink washing for detail is found here...

I use ink washing, haven't tried the Hasslefree technique.

I don't think that technique is intended to be used after painting! I think taking abrasives (even cotton buds) to your thin coats of paint will leave you with primer or bare metal left behind... The trick to using ink washes is to know that GW inks have the wrong amount of surface tension, which tends to cause the pigments to form into rings instead of settling into the crevices. I thin the inks with a mix of 5:1 water to Future which makes a big difference! I suspect that acrylic paint flow improver may also be effective, but is definitely more expensive than Future.

I've been noticing this problem with surface tension.  It seems a bigger problem with primed than unprimed miniatures.  Been trying to figure out how to get around it.

What is this "Future" of which you speak?

:confuse:

It's an acrylic floor covering that dries real hard and real shiny.  It does a good job of reducing surface tension, but you have to be careful becuase it can obscure detail.  That's why I stopped using it in favor of flow improver.  I had a mini lose a lot of detail using Future.  Now I use it as a sealer after I'm done for a hard coat, then hit it with a matte sealer.  It's available in Europe and several places in the world under different names, all of which escape me at the moment.
