Hi all. This is to be a blog for my planned Epic Tyranid army. As I still haven't actually recieved any models (Although a few purchaches should be en route) this blog will probably progress fairly slowly. Nid Infantry is worth it's own weight in gold these days so it is not unlikely that the blog will mainly feature bio tanks and warengines untill(if) SG decide to re-release the infantry spure. As a bit of shameess pluggery I'd also like to add that if someone should have some Nid infantry they want to get rid of at a reasonable price/trade then I'm definitely interested. |

My first entry is actually more of a question to 40k players: Since I'm probably going to get a Carnifex, some Gaunts and Warriors as a base for my Biomonsters I was considering buying the Army boxed set for ?50 from the online store. That should save me a decent ammount of money. However I am not sure if I get everything I would if I bought the pieces seperately. The description doesn't say anything about the Rippers you usually get on the spures. Also I was wondering if the box comes with all the accessory spures you would get from buying the sets seperately? |

My first Nid purchases consist of the following items: 2 Dominatrix', one of which are to be turned into a Hydraphant. The plan is to beef these up with some Carnifex bitz. 2 Hive Tyrants (Possibly 2 more if an auction doesn't spin out of control) 5 stands of Warriors 8 stands of gargoyles 3 Zoanthropes 3 Nodes I'm planning a GW order for various bitz and the before mentioned Army Box. This should give me the miniatures needed to build the following models: 2 Harridans 1 Hierophant 3 Hierodules 3 Trygons 3 Malefactors 3 Haruspex 4 Exocrines 3-6 Dactylis. 10 Raveners (BTW do you base these 1 to a stand like Lictors?) |

the ?50 boxed sets are complete kits... you dont lose parts by getting the set... also some of the mongoose games starship trooper bugs may make good proxies... their 'mites' (i think they are called that) would make great epic bio tanks... |

Yes, you get a single Ripper on a number of sprues, so they cant be left out of the boxed set. Looking forward to this one! |

Cool. The Starship Troopers stuff sounds very interesting. I'll see if there's anything there which might be usefull. I found a place on Ebay that sells the Nid boxed set for ?10 less than in the GW online store. However the question is if this is much of an advantage when you factor in shipping cost for the stuff I'm going to order from GW anyway. Besides GW is always good for replacing stuff in canse things do get damaged or lost in transit as opposed to an Ebay store. |

Yeah, I'd recommend the ?50 Battleforce set, it's got all you need for Big Bio-Beasties, objective/infestation/Hive Node markers; plus spares if you ever want to scratch-build a 'Nid BFG fleet (which I'd like to, at some point...) P.S. Possibly the best thread title on here in a long time... ![]() ![]() |

hey warmaster , what are you planning on using as trigons ? i was looking into doing some of this myself as i just picked up a bunch of nid inf. off e-bay. and i was thinking of just using 40k raveners with minor converting, are they too big ? |

A bit big I think but that's just my personal taste. Personally I was going to build something from a Gaunt and some greenstuff but I'll have to wait and see what bitz I'll have available first. |

A few thoughts on the paint scheme: Personally I'm not too hot on too brightly painted Nids. I think I'm going to start with a white undercoat followed by a coat of Camo Green and then pick out bone details in white again. Then everything will be covered with a dark brown wash (Possibly Vallejo "Smoke" wash though I'll have to do a bit of experimenting) and finally drybrushed with Rotting flesh or Bleached bone. I was aiming for an overall color tone similar to these Kroot ![]() |

Mmm... Kroot. ?Didn't I have a yahoogroup about them...? ![]() I think I remember seeing that on Warseer (or somewhere). ?Wasn't it dipped in a floor varnish mix? ?I think smoke could turn out out looking 'thinner'. ?That's not to say you shouldn't use it, though! IIRC the Tamiya clears are slightly more viscous than inks etc. Forum I used to go to went nuts for the clear red because it created a more realistic blood effect than red ink. Lastly, I'm not so sure about the final drybrush. ?IME drybrushed layers tend to look better under the final wash. ![]() |

This is going to be awesome ![]() Good choice of colours IMO (but then it is very close to my own nids... so maybe I'm biased) ![]() |

I think Vermis is right, that's a varnished Kroot.. look at the base too - it's all mucked with the stuff. Wash is thinner, but the GW flesh wash I use works as well, if applied thickly. The end result is glossy, but that's ok for Nids - slime is good, right? And yes, nice thread name. ![]() ![]() |
