Hi all,
After taking a break from my LED work with my Fire Prism, I'm trying to work up the courage to place an LED inside an Avatar. ?I'm trying to get the look from the DOW video game. ?I know there have been many versions of this model, and I was wondering if people have some suggestions, pictures, etc. of Avatars old and new.
Ideally, I want a tall, detailed model. ?The only one I have seems to be referred to as "version 3" (see pics). ?How does the new EA (court of the young king) one compare? ?Anyone have the version 2 model?

Please let me know if the pics don't work.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks and Merry Christmas,
CF

The E:40k Avatar (Avatar 3) is very small compared to the E:A one. Maybe half or 2/3rd's the height.

Actually, there are 4 different Avatar models.  The original with the Spear, the very large late SM2 version with the Sword (Avatar 2 in the pics), the miniscule E40K version that came in the commanders blister (Avatar 3), and the E:A version that came in the Court of the Young King.  I have all 4, and the largest, and IMO the best looking one is version 2......it'd be my pick to try and "LEDise".

If you look at the Forgeworld Avatar is almost Titan sized right? I remember in a piece of artwork the Avatar was huge, making tanks look like dwarves. So what about using the metal 40k model of the Avatar?

The ForgeWorld avatar is about 5" tall to the head.

He's not even as tall as a Sentinel, let alone a Titan. :)

http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/avatar.htm Looks taller than a sentinel though ;) The Avatar could have various sized I guess, the idea of the Avatar being a giant could be cool and very possible in the epic game. So what about getting the normal 40k Avatar and use that one.

Hmmm, guess the info on the FW description is wrong (Says it's 4.7" tall).

Still, not quite titan-sized.

THanks Van ! ?You are the Man ! :) ? ? ?I don't currently have the E/Collector listed Av 2 ... Now I wish I didn't sell him ! :( ?Anyone got an extra ??! ??? ? ? ? ? ?We thought all the Avatars (that I use as Statues as seen in the pics), were too Big ... We use the old SM1 metal Eldar Cdr fig for our Avatar. ?And he will now go on the E:A CoYK base with some Exarchs ! ? :D

Fair enough, but how big would a 40k avatar be compared to normal epic models? Or what about the Forgeworld avatar? Its all about artistic freedom!

Wow!
Thanks for all the quick replies - I knew you guys could help ?:D ?:D

So far, I'm leaning towards either the E/collector #2 or the E:A (#4). ?Which is bigger? ?Bulkier? ?More detailed? ?Can anyone measure the length (head to toe) of these models in mm?

As for using a 40k model, some may work, but I think the GW 40k avatar would be too big. ?I'm looking for something below around 45mm. ?However, it doesn't actually have to be an avatar figure, as I plan to do some conversion (any ideas on other figures?) ?In fact, the current plan is to cast the figure in clear resin, with an LED embedded inside. ?The figure will then be painted with some clear parts (eg. eyes, mouth, runes etc...) remaining. ?The light should shine through these parts.

Thanks again for all the help,
CF

Avatar 2 (SM2/TL) foot to head = 36mm
Avatar 4 (E:A) foot to head = 28mm

I'm actually surprised they are that close in the flesh, and indeed most of the additional height is extended headdress, though Avatar 2 is also noticeably bulkier all round. ?I might try for a comparison photo later.  Avatar 4 is quite a nice figure, though it's a bit "messy".  Avatar 2 is IMO the best of them, with a ton of detail and a very clean, dynamic sculpt.

Avatar 1 (AT/SM) - foot to head = 26mm
Avatar 3 (E40K) - foot to head = 19mm

Just for completeness :)

On the size thing, Avatar 3 is about the right height in comparison to the standard infantry based on the 40K Avatar.....just seems a little too puny in Epic, and it's the worst of the sculpts too.
