Well, I used my original Hydraphant (then Hierophant... the bigger Bio-Titan) as the basis for my Red Queen Dominatrix conversion, so that left a big hole in my Bio-Titan forces and I was looking for a solution. Chatting with my friends before on of the recent campaign games provided that solution, and it was right before my eyes the entire time! I took the current 40k Carnifex model I'd gotten in a trade, snapped it apart, and repositioned it to give a more "lumbering" pose. I must say, it's frightening to think how big the thing would be in EPIC. *laugh* I'm making the forearms modular/magnetic, just in case the "variable" weapons option shows up in the Tyranid list. Here's with guns: ![]() And with claws: ![]() Any ideas on how to make it appear a little more "EPIC"y? |

Humongoid! ![]() Epicification... aside from cutting it up again and going nuts with bits and putty (again: me), and smaller nids or buildings, I'm not too sure. How about scattering rice on the base and calling it rippers? ![]() |

Holy bloody hell - it's 'Uge! But it looks great. Epic has always had a questionable adherence to scale anyway. |

There are a lot of big, smooth places that take it out of scale (not to mention that it's bigger than a great gargant). I think the most effective tac would be simply using putty to mold additional detail for those sections, e.g. smaller atriculated bands/plates on the tail. If it were me, though, I'd be scared of dorking up my cool model with my mediocre modeling skills... |

Chroma- I really like the gun variant. On your question of making it better scaled, can you replace the body with a warrior's? I'm not sure of size difference or even the warrior's shape but it may go some way to making it more "Epic" scale. Failing that maybe replace the huge-ass claws with smaller, more vicious/sharper variants - maybe even scything talons??? Those claws always remind me of boxing gloves - won't penetrate squat(excusing the long-departed epic army pun)... ![]() |

I think it looks fine scale-wise. I see no reason why Bio-Titans would look that much different to the smaller Nids, after all an 80 foot croc like Sarcosuchus looks basically like a big version of the tiny one-foot species. (that's length, not limbs!) Maybe if scale is a worry, add a couple of epic nid infantry to the base - that would certainly give a sense of its huge size. regards, Reaver |

Fair enough! ![]() Maybe this is rubbing salt into a wound, but yesterday I was going 'round some of my old 40K nid stomping grounds, and I noticed again that a popular thing is to convert the new carny into a 'babyphant' (not sure if it counts as a carnifex or tdr creature). ?They're scattered on the warpshadow.com forums, but you can also see a couple of them here. The second looks simpler to do but just as effective. ?That's if you want to go cutting up yours again... ![]() |

Damn, I just did the same thing ! I finished painting it yesterday evening, I'll post pictures soon so we can compare. My Hydraphant/Dominatrix is a bit different though, and not exactly WYSIWYG (no bio-cannons). Any ideas on how to make it appear a little more "EPIC"y? Try adding some Tyranid infantry on the base. What's cool is that gives an idea of how gigantic the thing is by Epic standards. ![]() |

I think the best way(s) to make the creature look epicy are 1) Give it more back plates. It is a large beastie, so it should (wih my limited xenobiological skills) have several back plates rather than a few large ones. 2) Change its neck and head. These are the bit that scream carnifex (to me). YOu could give it a frilly head plate and remove the gizzedy bit of the carnies neck. 3) change the position of the mid limbs. Try to have them pointing more forwards, so it looks like they are used for locamotion (like an old persons walking sticks). |
