One camoflaged Griffon, and I managed to keep the primary colour triad. :;): ?Though I'm having second thoughts.
Originally I highlighted the camo markings up from black with Vallejo Intense Blue, but that was too... intense. ?So I blacked it out and went with a duller blue - Ultramarines - and not as much.
I might dull the grey a little too. ?Maybe I used too much Fortress Grey in there. ?Maybe not.
One thing that's almost certainly going is the red. ?It's pretty much the same technique I used on the Chasseur, except here it looks overpowering: especially on the right, alongside the yellow trim. ?Sometimes I can't help humming 'Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer'. ?Other times it reminds me of an open sore, or something. :(

I'd like to ask your opinion here: completely erase the red with grey & blue camo (maybe using a little bit of red in any decals I manage to make)? ?Or do as I did with the blue and dull it way down? ?I'm thinking Scorched Brown with either Dark Flesh or Terracotta, maybe a touch of Red Gore. ?Either way I want to leave the yellow as the only 'bright focus' (if that makes sense).

Lastly, I was going to go with a brownish landscape, and brownish camo; but the triad thing made me stick with shadow grey.

nice paintwork!
But i agree, i think the red should go. If you want only the yellow to stand out you might want to express it some more.

Hi Vermis, very nice work - go for a brick-red colour, but keep it.    :D  :D

Yeah, I agree with this.  Keep it, but tone it down to something a little more brownish red.

Great work on the camo.  Nice to see more DRM starting to show up on this board.

I agree with getting rid of the red. It seems a bit out of place - and glowing.

Otherwise it looks beautiful.

I like the red, but I agree that it needs to be toned down. I'd go with Van's suggestion for brick red.

Very nice painting, Vermis!  It must be hard to get a balance between the camo & incorporating the Ad Mech's traditional colour.  So I agree with the other comments, a different shade of red would probably work better.

Great job !  But yes, the red should be closer to brick or terra cotta ... IMO ... of course ! :D

Ta all!

So that's six (including Paul at DRM) against two.  Brick it is. :)  I'll try to stick on just a bit more yellow, too.

I actually like the red but if your going for admech it's always described as rust red, so I would go with dark flesh with a touch of vermin brown as a highlight... though this is not really red... hmm.. I don't know maybe somewhere between the two?

Ah... I did forget to mention it.  It's a Hammerjack from Dark Realm Miniatures.

That's one of the smaller uncertainties I had about the ASP.  As far as I can see, only my titans and knights will be GW minis, for various reasons.  I wasn't sure if an almost completely proxied army would be the best showcase for the... 'avid' GW fan.

Back to the Griffon: I had a good look at my paint collection tonight, and I think terracotta's the best choice.  I'll try a quick blend from black, as before.
Trouble is, it might not be as easy.  The poor coverage of GW's reds actually helped a lot with the blending on the Chasseur and Hammerjack.

What I use for, "Red" ... for example for some of my Blood Angels ... I bought a cheap Iron Oxide/Rust colored spray paint.  Then after I base coat the model in that, I'll wash in brown then after that dries, a black wash.  Once dried over night, I dry brush Burnt Umber, then Terra Cotta then Rust ... and I don't change the brush and it blends the colors ...  And the last color using the same brush is a tan or ochre, for the last high light.  Of course, you don't have to do all that, but that works for me !  :D

mix your paint with some varnish it will make it more translucent allowing you to blend :)
