I have a bunch of excess rhino's lying around, anyone have any tips on converting them to predators or whirlwinds? Especially, common items I can use for turrets, sponsons, guns etc. I am thinking toothpicks might be OK as missiles.

I've use a number of different turrets, weapons, etc. to do that ...  I have pics of some of them, LMK and I'll send them to you if you like !  :D

that's really good! how did you do the lascannons? Is it possible to buy plasticard in cylindrical form?

The Pred turret looks like the origininal.
I had to look twice to see that it's Scratchbuild and not just a recast :)

Yup. Evergreen plastics has a really nice rod assortment pack which will get you started.

Great googly moogly! :O

On the original topic: the easiest thing I can think of is to find someone with a few of the current hunters, and see if they have whirlwind turrets lying around.  Or take a look at GZG 2mm minis.  L4 used some as turrets, IIRC (correct?) and they look very effective. :)

Scratchbuilding: the tips of toothpicks could work for old-old-style whirlwinds.  Pieces of square styrene rod with the extreme tips could be a basis for the newer types.

Bloody hell, that's a good kitbash!  Nice work!

As for turret bits, you can always take a look at something like the 1/700 naval weapons packs from Tamiya.  There's a pic of the box art in this thread here:

For Whirlwinds, you can use rectangular tubing from Evergreen Models and toothpicks or straightpins for missiles.  Another good option is three-pin jumpers from an old motherboard.
