I'm putting together a Sisters of Battle force for EA and wanted to share my assembly and painting progress in a thread! I'm using mainly Vanguard Novan Convent miniatures and my order arrived a few weeks ago. Here's everything all laid out when I first took it out of the box: All told it's roughly 3,500 points worth of miniatures so I have some wiggle room when it comes to list building for 2,000 and 3,000 point games. It helps that I accidentally ordered twice as many Redeemers (Penitent Engine proxies) than I actually needed! I haven't had much free time recently, so over the past couple weeks I've been slowly cleaning flash and mold lines and washing the miniatures in warm soapy water to prep them for painting. This past weekend I managed to finish cleaning and assembling my armored contingent! Rhinos and Exorcists and Repressors, oh my! The only things that aren't glued down yet are the dozer blades on the Pacifiers (Repressor proxies) in the front row for ease of painting and the turrets on the three Sky Shield AA tanks (Hunter proxies). I'm planning to magnetize those three so I can swap their turrets for more Organ mortars (Exorcist proxies) if I'm facing an opponent without any air assets. I'm really impressed with the level of detail on these miniatures! There are two issues still up in the air though. For one thing, I'm not 100% settled on a painting scheme yet. I'm thinking either Order of the Bloody Rose (red armor with black robes on the infantry) or Order of the Sacred Rose (white armor with black robes on the infantry). Personally I prefer red, but I think if I painted them primarily white they'd look really striking, especially if I make the bases mud or dark earth. The second issue is a question I'd like to pose: should I base the vehicles? Looking at pictures it seems like folks here are 50/50. I'm looking at 25mm x 40mm plywood bases from Litko if I do decide to base them. It seems like it's a lot of extra hassle, but in my head I like the image of having the whole army tied together with the bases. |

Got some painting done today! I primed my Spartas / Rhinos with Vallejo white primer through an airbrush. I bought a few contrast paints to try them out because I heard they work great for 6mm. I'm not sure if they're working as intended given these white metal miniatures are nowhere near as smooth as plastic, but with that said, I got great results with Apothecary White. Flesh Tearers Red... not so much. Looks like I'm making my Sisters from the Order of the Sacred Rose instead of the bloody one! The picture's unfortunately not that great but you can see how splotchy the red came out. The white looks great though. I also tried to do some detailing on one tank with Black Templar with mixed results. I think I need to paint dark gray underneath for the black to look better. I'm pleased with how the white came out, it looks very crisp. |

Finnegan_Bojangles wrote: I'm not sure if they're working as intended given these white metal miniatures are nowhere near as smooth as plastic, That shouldn't cause a problem – almost all of my use of contrast has all been on white metal (minis from a range fo eras and sources) and it works fine. Black templar I find needs two coats minimum or it just looks like very dark grey – and even after 2 coats actual black paint is much blacker overall. Apothecary white looks like it's worked well though, once you get darker elements like the tracks blocked in to contrast the contrast, should look good. Could accentuate the deepest shadows on the white with watered down black wash. |

yeah it's a good base. Once you block in more colors going at it with a pinwash in all the creases would probably make this phenomenal |

So you are the reason Vanguard sold out of everything I see! Lovely looking stuff, look forward to seeing the army progress. |

Good call on the differing schemes per formation. I do something similar myself. 1. It breaks up the symmetry of the army and therefore looks better on the tabletop having more flare (IMO) 2. Helps me and my opponent more easily understand what is what on the tabletop at a glance 3. Keeps me motivated to keep painting because I am not just painting the identical thing over and over again |

I'm genuinely excited for finishing these. I think I've nailed my vehicle painting process, although I might still up the contrast with brighter edge highlights on the black components. I've got some basing materials and weathering powders inbound, but otherwise these 8 Rhinos are pretty much complete.

These are superb, well done. I started a Convent army some time ago but never completed it (waiting for the APCs to come out). So, I was really keen to see how these looked 'under the brush'. They do paint up really nicely so that means another army added to the list ! Looking forward to seeing more of your pics. Phil |

All the Novan Convent vehicles look great. |

Hello. I am not dead. I have been slowly chipping away at this project over the past year, though I'm still nowhere near done. Here are some semi-recent presentable glamor shots:
