Has anyone tried basing infantry on ovals?

While waiting for my Novan Regulars to arrive from Vanguard, I've been thinking about an AdMech Skitarri list.

I'm planning to grab some current AT models for titans, which come with oval bases. I found an Ordinatus Mars on eBay going relatively cheap, and had to grab it. It will need to be based for stability, and that will go on oval for consistency. I'm also planning to grab a Microworld supertank for a Minorus with landing pad, and that will probably be best if based as well. Unless Vanguard release a better option, I'll probably using Cybershadow light combat drones as Colossus Robots; they too will need basing, and will go on rounds. Crusader robots, 20mm rounds.

At that point, I'm thinking I might as well just base everything, even though I don't normally base any vehicles other than walkers. Chimedons and other Ordinati Minorus on ovals.

I'm not huge fan of 25mm round for infantry, but I'm not sure I want them on 20mm squares when everything else is ovals or rounds. So now I'm thinking I should do the infantry on ovals as well.

I was thinking 35mm x 15mm ovals. Am I crazy?

If I can be talked out of oval infantry, my fall back is probably a 40 x 12 strip with rounded ends.

Yeah, it is perfectly fine. I think they will look a lot better for walkers than round ones, which end up having too much wasted space at the front or back.

Those aren't my tyranids but I have indeed based on ovals.

I got some 40 by 12mm oval bases laser cut in 1.5mm high acrylic (to match the old Epic bases height) as a custom order. There's still enough space I find - I've managed to squeeze 20 guants onto one 40 by 12mm base. I also have a dozen or more other shapes and sizes made. I've also made a few other oval shapes - I buy Titanicus titans to use for Epic but base them on 1.5mm high laser cut bases of their usual sizes.

My laser cutter seems to have gone out of business sadly but I expect it should be feasible to find a different one willing to do custom bases.

Thanks Glyn, you posted before I got around to searching for some images of your Nids!

Abetillo - those are Onyx’s Nids, from Australia. Nids are featured on https://onyxworkshop.wordpress.com/epic ... /tyranids/ but the whole blog is worth reading.
