Post subject:  Removing infantry from bases?

So after much struggling with exacto-knives and freezing, I've given up trying to 'debase' some miniatures I received. Soaked in ever green. No luck.

Is there any way to remove infantry off bases? square and long ones. Some seem to be superglued while others I think are plastic cemented.

Many times, I've just had to destroy the base.

Sometimes, if I want to save it, I slice the minis off at their feet. Downsides, this method is time consuming, not great for metal minis, have sliced my thumbs. There are anti-superglue products on the market but I've never tried them. Can't say I've got any answers here, hopefully someone else does. To contribute, my data point is that freezing has only ever worked on metal minis when I've done it.

I find if I soak them in neat dettol to strip the paint, often they come loose enough on the base that some careful work with a craft knife and they pop out

If they're really stuck I use clippers to butcher the base avoiding the models.

Two pair of pliers, one at either end of the base then pop them. You then work inwards on the still attached models with clippers or a scalpel as back up.

Cut around the miniature's plinth, through the base. Hold it parallel to a cutting surface, put a sharp knife on the line between plinth/base and cut straight down.

Agree with all of the above regarding sacrificing the base. It becomes a lot easier if you're ok with this step.

I usually will trim the base apart around the model, getting as close as possible to to model itself, then using an exacto blade to separate what remains of the base, from the stand of the figure.

Yes, just clip around the base of the figure. And sand/file down around it until you get the original round base, etc. I've done it many times in the past ... Take your time & be patient ... ^-^

Hi!

I had very good success with this:

I super clean for nearly all plastics as it does not harm them and seems to soften the glue over the course of a couple of days.

Even those that do not come off on their own can be "popped out" with a blade more times than not.

Of course nothing beats pure acetone, but that only can be used with metal as it will "melt" plastic/resin.

After using aceton you would have no base at all ;)
