Well that's tempting... Did you recess shade, contrast and then edge highlight?

white car primer, contrast, exaggerate any recess if needed*, quick dry brush pale flesh to highlight, reinforce dry brushed highlights with edge highlight

*if needed – depends on the mini and if i've modified it for 3mm. Initially I was just printing the files tiny, the details do show, but some are so shallow that the paint doesn't interact with them meaningfully. Now I spend a bit of time exaggerating details (e.g. deepening panel lines) before i print, so less of that is needed.

My 15mm word bearers were recess shaded though – green wash followed by blood red contrast gave a good effect.

Green wash over the primer in the recesses only then the contrast? Interesting that contrast allows you to use a preshade technique, not conceptually different than how we do with airbrushing.

Aye, red and green make excellent contrasting colors for shading due to the color wheel. I've been contemplating trying a pin wash of mig 502 army green oils on some BA tanks in a similar manner.

For Word bearers: no, green wash all over. no reason you couldnt just do the recesses, that just requires a level of finesse and attention to detail im too lazy for.

For selective accentuation of recesses that were too shallow on my prints for BA i've just used AP dark tone, or brown contrast, depending which bottle was at my finger tips.

Starting on my third ever attempt at a jungle warrior army, but this time 3mm

Black templars for scale, you can see their heads come just neatly above the 2mm thick base on the templars.

yes, using the DRM jungle fighter infantry, that was in ?2010? i did two painted stands that way. Then no progress for years. Then painted a full army's worth of Valks and Vults to do airborne catatchans maybe 4 years ago … then couldn't face painting any infantry for them/needed to strip a lot of old SM2 plastic catachans for it. Third time around im back to infantry, but half the scale.

What are you using for the metal? Boltgun, Nuln and a silver DB or edge highlight?

boltgun, two successive washes of army painter dark tone, then mithril edge/dry
gun has a bit of snakebit contrast on it
