Post subject:  dreadnaught detachments

Hi Guys posted this in the epic 4000 section but was informed epic 4000 does not use detachments,

Basically build my armies of the old sm2 cards, but have none for dreadnaughts, how many dreadnaughts to a detachment or are these just purchased individually on a points purchase system ?

well that's hard to answer, mate. What game are you trying to play with them? Sounds like you're playing 2nd edition/NetEpic?

Jimmy i dont play chap, i have always just painted and converted 6mm ::) But to begin with worked of the sm2 stuff, still finishing my sally army and want to add dreads but dont want o go oot on them, ;)

i.e like a sm company is made up of 3 groups, each group is 6 stands of 5 marines.

a detachment is 6 stands of 5 marines, how many dreads in an attachment ? If that makes sense :spin

ahhhhh ic. I'm basically in a similar boat around here myself now too (btw, did I raise your ire? hope not, just trying to not give you cod-shit advice, that's all).

There's some codex astartes chapter organization diagrams around from GW that come from the Index Astartes series IIRC (though I think there's a related one in one of the IA books from FW too). Basically the dreads are not part of a regular order of battle but a chapter level pool (unless you're someone like the Iron Hands and Space Puppies but they're not codex compliant either). They're unpacked as needed and part of the specialists tied to a force for the mission/campaign. Numbers vary but more than a dozen or two seems greater than typical in a chapter but of course all things being GW, numbers, reasonable force sizes, logistics, etc all don't make sense regardless. Guess that means you're rather free to do what looks good.

So all that being said I'd suggest 0-3 dreads in a detachment as desired. Easy enough to "make an upgrade card" for them for 1-3 (the zero option being a lack of said card, obviously). If you wanted to point cost them, if you ever play with it, that would be up to said rules and always happy to give a stab at them if wanted.

cheers!

Cool beans Jimmy ;)

Appreciate the stuff you typed on the fluff also mate, will aim for 6 as that sounds like its more than enough by the sounds of it ;) Points wise not fussed at the moment, I intend to finally get round to feilding this army at some point, which is when i can pick and choose from what i have and hopefully have all units covered for different games but nothing to OTT.

Which is why i find it kind of hard sometimes such as with my sally termies, a proper full 1st companys worth as i enjoyed painting them so much, and the large walkers, and the flyers... the list goes on but you get my point ;D
