Tyranids: You can start here!
Saim-Hann: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=24175&p=559037#p559037

Hi there!

After a few years of painting for a few days followed by months/years of intermission, I decided to star a new project from scratch with something new. I decided to go for Tyranids since that was one of the few armies we didn't have in our collection.

So, what's different this time? Previously I took a formation/detachment/regiment and started painting it all, one color in every miniature at a time, well, this is all well and good, but after the first batch, a month of work had passed, and as time went by, I started loosing interest. Even If I tried 5 to 10 models at a time I couldn't keep it up after the first batch... :{[]
This time, I'm trying to paint 1 to 2 stands a day instead of a whole detachment in a week. This way I can see the army grow a piece at a time instead of a chunk at a time.

So far, it seems to be working! I started on the 10th of October and I've painted 5 Swarms so far! :spin

So, this thread's objective is twofold, to showoff my work (there's no point in having a nice army with no one to show it to) and at the same time, be encouraged by the constructive criticism to keep on treading!

So, without further ado, the progress for the last few weeks (sorry for the crappy pics, need to learn how to take better pis):

Tyranids:

4 days in:

7 days in (almost 2 swarms ready):

11 days in (3 Swarms ready):

Progress for last week (5 Swarms ready)

Lets hope you'll enjoy many more updates! I'll try to update this blog as I finish each swarm or when I'm in need for some uplifting comments! ;D

Thanks for watching!

Cheers!

Welcome Kalrath, great nids, the army seems to be coming along nicely. I like the hex bases, looking forward to more progress pics.

I to find it hard to keep going on a project that requires a lot of repetative painting, but your system seems to be working, i may give it a go myself.

Welcome aboard, Kalrath! You're off to a good start. Good painting, and I agree that it is much more rewarding to see a steady trickle of finished miniatures than the 105 models with one more paint. Love the hex bases. If I had not already settled for strips, I would definitely consider it.

Hi there Kalrath

As mentioned before: great looking nids. I like the color scheme a lot. The usage of hex bases is smart. That has never even crossed my mind but seeing it now I think I will try it. Will follow this project

I'll echo the sentiments above, great painting and clever basing, excited to see some big critters!

Nice work. I really like the look of hex bases, too.

Whoa! Thanks a lot for the encouraging comments! :spin

Well, since last posting, I have finished 2 more stands for a new termagant swarm. Today I'll paint 2 more and possibly by Thursday I'll have a new swarm ready. I have 2 Termagant swarms to finish (including the current one) before going for the rest of the Lictors.

It'll take a couple of weeks till I dig into the biggies. No worries. Like Fredman says, small trickle and steady flow is the way for me.

As for the bases, they're inspired by the old SM Tyranid Army cards! The bases are 20mm face to face, MDF, and with this size I can get away with 3 critters per base and still look good! Or so I think... The plan is to expand on these bases across the entire army for a unified look. Still missing some shrubbery on them, but I currently don't have any static grass or whatnot, so, that will come in a later stage.

Now, off to the workbench to meet the days quota before the missus comes home! ;D

Cheers and thanks for watching!

Well deserved storm of applause. For me nowadays, glacial speed is of no consequence as long as the process is enjoyable.
