Hey all!

Been lurking around the forums for about a year now, occasionally commenting and putting away ideas when I see something that inspires me. I've finally put together the nerve and the motivation to start my own thread as I paint my collection for Net:EA. I came across the game a couple years ago and I've slowly been collecting enough miniatures for competitive armies of Steel Legion, Orks, Space Marines, Tyranids, Eldar, and Tau. Upon Dave's suggestion, I started with the Steel Legion first.

This is my first work in wargaming or even painting miniatures so any and all comments and criticism are welcome. I'll be happy with any tips, suggestions, pointers, etc. that you have to offer. I'm hoping to have a 3k list ready for MechaniCon in October. Any suggestions for SL would be greatly appreciated!

Now, what you all came here for, Cue the photos!

File comment: Here's a test strip for my infantry. I applied a different number of shades to the three minis that actually got painted. I'll be going with the middle one, not too little shade, not too much. You can also see GW base paint I plan to use for the bases of this army. Probably will hit that with a dry brush later on to make the texture pop.

File comment: Basilisk arty, shaded. I plan to add company markings later on, similar to the Shadowsword.

File comment: Basilisk arty. WIP version Again, I plan to go back with more colors later to add specific details. This one also is waiting for a final shade to be applied.

File comment: This is my first completed miniature, a Shadowsword. I'm going to assembly line the rest of the army, but I got over-excited and finished this one. At some point I want to go back and add more colors for small details. I've heard a "realistic" color palate won't show as well on the table at 6mm, but that dirty subdued vibe seemed to fit the SL for me.

I would also like to give a shout out to Dave for inviting me into his group and getting me motivated to start painting. Also, I want to thank everyone on the forums for putting up awesome pictures that only got be more interested in the hobby, but especially Onyx for the inspiration he provided with his works and color palates (I found his personal blog early on and after that, I was hooked.)

Thanks for the support and feedback!

Rastaman - if I followed up with some drybrushing, do you have any suggestions about it?

If you want to see how utterly awesome drybrushing can look, I suggest checking out the various painting threads of Apocolocyntosis, the dude is a *master*..... I've tried and failed to replicate his techniques but you may succeed where I have failed.... ;)

So I haven't posted in far too long. My recent project for 2015 is putting together a Nid army. I bought some old forumware awhile back that had been painted very well as Hive Behemoth. So, following in those colors, here's my first model done, the Dominatrix.

If these are examples of your first painted minis, then you've got some talent there. In a year, you'll be putting some of the exceptional artists here to shame if you just keep practicing and learning new techniques.

Very, very nice job. :)

Thanks for the positive feedback! I really appreciate hearing from people after admiring their projects.

To keep the momentum, I completed a Trygon Swarm.

I really wanted to improve the blue markings so I extended them and made them a bit thinner. I was also much happier with the shading on the claws for the Trygons compared to the Dom. I held off putting on a clear coat because I noticed the Dom looked a bit shiney. I'm using Testors Dullcoat because I wanted to avoid that shine. Hoping to figure out that issue and fix it. C&C welcome!

And a few close ups of the pose that was my personal favorite. Seemed the most dynamic to me!
