It's worth pointing out that FFG's star wars: X-wing miniatures game is PERFECT for this project. Including a Lambda shuttle with working wings and a YT-1300 transport (Millennium Falcon). FFG has just about everything from the original trilogy, and gamers on Shapeways have a vast array of EU ships that aren't likely to see print in the FFG game, including the E-wing, K-Wing, Assault Gunboat, TIE Advanced and Defender, etc. If you're looking to do this, Target still has a few starter sets deeply discounted.
Most recently, an Assault Gunboat with folding wings:

I own several of these in FUD and can attest to their quality, accuracy, and durability. They're fantastic. I'd call them comparable to FFG's minis in quality, and I like that he makes sure not to challenge or compete with them (they're a good business and deserve to be supported).
Regarding Space Troopers (stormtroopers in heavy power armor used in zero gravity boarding actions), the best option IMO is a proxy: Brigade Models' 6mm power armor (
